Hi all. I’m new to the 4runners having always owned Jeeps in the past. I treated myself to a new 4runner TRD Off Road last week. Now I need to figure out the best modifications for it to make it trail ready. New platform for me! So far absolutely love it! I’ve heard people say it is dated but the engine is great and I like the looks of the interior. If I wanted a luxury car with all the new technology I would have bought something else.

    Welcome from Wisconsin!

The 4runner is pretty capable out of the box. Of course, it's no Wrangler(as far as off road capability).

Tires, skids, and lift are probably the 3 most important. Sliders also, depending on the type of off-roading you do.

I'm stock except for tires and sliders. Skids are definitely the next thing as I already smashed the stock skid. Lift would be nice to get the front diff and skid plate a little higher.

Still, I've been pretty impressed with what this thing just walks right through.

Congratulations on your purchase! This is definitely the place to learn about all of stuff you need to buy!:D

Good decision... I’m debating on upgrading. My SUV has been so good to me over the years. And just keeps running better....

Thanks guys. InAz we have fairly rocky trails and steep trails unless you stay on forestry roads. I think a 3 in lift will be beneficial. Am looking at Slee sliders out of Co. Anyone familiar with them? Combo running board and sliders. Look interesting

Your 4R looks great. Just wondering, what tires are U rocking and what's your overall opinion of them especially with the TRD wheels?

Thanks, the tires are Falken Wildpeak M/Ts in the 285/70/17 E. I like them, i had them on my 3rd gen. And decided to get them for this one also. I have had no problems as far as rough ride or anything. They are a strong tire, so you can beat on them no problem.

Awesome thanks. I have a 19 4R ORP in the same silver but blacked out OEM rims but OEM tires. I'm really considering the same Falken Wildpeak but in A/T3W not M/Ts. Was wondering if the A/T3W has the same bold look as the M/Ts? But more importantly I'm interested in the quality of traction especially in wet/snow conditions as I'm in Pennsylvania & need it for our winter months & obviously the rest of the year. I plan on keeping the OEM tires as they only have 16K miles. Would you say they offer great handling in wet conditions? I am planning on getting them for my Honda Pilot as well.

I hear good things about the A/T3s, quite a few folks on this forum recommend them.

+1 for RSG sliders. Excellent quality and available with a top plate.
