people overthink this stuff. I'm for evidence-based practice. my resident petroleum engineer buys synthetic (or whatever this mechanic says it is) off the shelf, changes every 7-10k or so and his cars go forever. Thus far, mine have done pretty well too. On to the next dumpster fire.

 

Sounds like I'm good since I'm a Pennzoil Platinum guy.

My input? The newer expensive oils, are not always better. For example: Switched to Motul oil in the Gixxer and it wouldnt shift right, switched back to basic Honda GN4 and shifts smooth as silk.
I dont run synthetic in my Harley Davidson, but I trust Mobile 1. I found a jug of un opened Castrol on the side of the road. It seemed to run great in the Corolla.

 

My manual calls for 0W20 which is only available in synthetic, so yes.

 

I can tell fron the noise the engine makes if the oil has 4k+ mikes. As can I with ever other car I've ever had. Doesn't seem to idle as smooth.

If changing synthetic every 5k is a waste of money I'd much prefer to err on the side of caution with this sort of thing.

 

I recently changed my oil and filter at home on my 2022 SR5 Premium 4WD. I chose this Valvoline 0W-20 “PREMIUM FULL SYNTHETIC EXTENDED PROTECTION”. Used a Toyota filter purchased from my dealer.

I’m going to do my intervals at 5,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. I’ll hit 6 months before I hit the 5,000 miles.

I think I’ll be good. 10,000 miles between oil changes??? NO THANKS.

 

I’ve said it before I’ll say it again:
I’m told in Canada change every 5000 Km’s, and if it’s brand new maybe closer to 10000 Km’s.
BUT Km’s are much different than miles, is it only me who points out that this makes no sense that Canada and USA both say “5000”
