Are the 5th Gens more susceptible to wind/tire noise?

Traded in my 2005 Yukon that had a GoRhino roof rack and Goodyear DuraTrac tires.

I never noticed any wind noise with the roof rack, and could barely discern any tire noise.

I've seen quite a few posts where TR4 owners are concerned about tire noise, though.

I took the roof rack off of the Yukon and installed it on the 4Runner yesterday. I really noticed the wind noise on the way to work this morning.

I also just ordered some new tires that are aggressive all-terrains and some folks have noted that the tire noise is noticeable on other vehicles. I'm really hoping that it's not bad in my vehicle.

Are these vehicles more susceptible to wind and tire noise? I know before the roof rack and with the stock tires, it was whisper quiet inside and I'd hate to lose that quality.

Honestly, i would not say they are more prone to the items you list, but if it would upset your apple cart? I suggest you leave it as is. I have 285/70/17 Falken MTs on mine and they do hum a bit, but i don’t mind it. To me it is all part of the beast. Enjoy what makes you smile.

These are broad generalizations on my part, but:

American cars have always done better with interior cabin noise. They spend more money on insulation.

Japanese cars aren't well known for this. They concentrate their spending on higher quality parts and reliability.

You will hear more outside noises in your 4Runner vs your Yukon, but your 4Runner will make it further down the road with fewer problems.

The whistle from the sideview mirror vortex generators are my biggest complaint. I don't have much road noise, but I'm also running P-rated Coopers, so it's not like I'm running big, stiff BFGs. And roof noise is very much a YMMV issue, from what I can tell.

    Oh, and nice avatar, eh?
