So I’m gona wash my new runner for the first time. Never really knew about wash/detailing until I started looking into it. Ther is basically the 2 bucket system, ONR rinse less system and foam cannon. Also your who cares just wash it and get it over with lol. Though I came across using multiple mits/towels technique. Kind of like that it’s only one bucket. Use the mit for a few panels and get a new one. Fast and effective. Anyone do this and what you think about it? If so some details like what soap, mits you use.

I used ONR on my car for first time and worked well.

A detail auto spa taught me about it and used on my 4R. Previously I used Meguiars gold class soap.

I always use two five gallon buckets each for half the vehicle.

I bought Griots PFM micro fiber drying towels when it was new last year. They are pricey but I think well worth it.

Good luck take your time doing it and enjoy it. I enjoy hand wash and wax. Then sit back have a beer and admire your work

Oh I have the Adams micro fiber sponge I use. Just use one for vehicle and not on wheels. I just squeeze it out a lot. I should add though I don’t off road and don’t have a ton of dirt either.

You have black on a Toyota…hahahaha

no matter what you do, it’s never gonna be perfect. Toyota paint is too soft.

I use two separate hand mitts. One for the paint and one for the tires/rims, steps, ect.

I'd say ONR is good for weekly maintenance washes but a deep clean I would use 2 chenille mitts. 1 for each half. Foam Cannon with P&S Pearl and 2 bucket method with a 3rd for the wheels. I also have a black 4runner and keeping the paint swirl free will be impossible. At least with this method you can keep it down to a minimum. Also make sure you use some quality microfiber towels for the wash. The Rag Company is your best bet and kirkland for the wheels and interior.

I've used ONR, single bucket, multiple mitts/rags for years with great success. I've done this on black, silver, white and gray vehicles. It's quick, works well, prevents water spots because you're drying each panel as you go, and I can wash during water restrictions. Also doesn't streak the windows, and I can use the damp drying cloths to clean the interior and door jambs. Great product...

If there's tons of mud on the car, I'll spray it off beforehand - but I would say for 99% of the washes it's just straight ONR. I don't see a lot of marring/scratching - no more than when I would do normal rinse washes with a grit guard or two bucket method.

I don't use anything to contact the paint when I wash. Just high-pressure wand. I air dry (brief freeway drive), and use Turtle Ice with microfiber cloths to wax, which also removes the water spots from the air-dry. I don't buff out the roof - since the 4R isn't garaged, I think just applying the wax on the dark blue paint may help protect it in the long run. Plus, it dries clear anyway, not chalky. Total job is maybe an hour and a half. Paint still looks new after 4 years/92k miles. Very few spiderwebs. I don't have the energy or desire to put in 4+ hours to try to make the truck look even more new. It looks 99% new today, and that's good for me.

I use one bucket and after washing one panel I toss out the water and refill so every panel is washed with clean water. I use a wool mitt and it is rinsed with every bucket fill. Any clean wash mitt will do - doesn't have to be sheep-wool. Wash with mitt in straight lines and rinse often - do not use mitt in circular motions. Wash in the shade and not in the sun. Dry the vehicle after washing - I use a leather chamois to dry - try to blotch the water rather than wipe to dry. For wheels, tires, mud flaps, I wash them with a sponge and the garden hose. You can buy car wash buckets that have grit guards, but I am using a regular-sized rubbermaid bucket.
