Any solution to running a hitch step and not getting the receiver to rust?

Always wanted a step but everyone says it causes the already rust prone receiver to rust even further with the metal on metal rubbing. Has anyone found a solid solution for this?

 

Anti-Seize. It makes a hell of a mess, though. I use it regardless..

 

I brushed on plenty of woolwax on the unexposed underside and backside of the hitch. The rest of it I leave dry and basically just clean up any little rust spots I see. I bought a little can of oil based rustoleum epoxy for things like this. Sand it a bit, wipe with alcohol, and then just dab a little paint on. I dont bother with a brush….I just roll up a little piece of paper towel to use as a brush lol. Much quicker.

 

As above, WoolWax, Por-15 or Fluid Film on the inside mating surface and a hitch "sinch" to keep it form moving around and chipping off the powder coating.

FYI, the article for jeep is an infinity scroll “advertisement delivery “article”. Same statements made over and over with incorrect information (like fluid film is a polyeurathane).

Been noticing this type of article more frequently as of late.

 

I have been applying Fluid Film to a wax applicator pad and then putting that on the hitch.

Its really awful that all these hitch manufacturers cannot put a better paint/protectant on there. I even put fluid film inside the receiver and on my hitch.

On my old Explorer when the rust got bad, i had a body shop sand off the hitch and apply rubberized undercoating to the whole area after masking off the bumper.

When I run one of two trailers with it on both my Jeep and 4Runner, I wipe the receiver back down with a light coat of Fluid Film. No issues. However, I live in West Texas, so its pretty dry here year 'round. We only get about 14" of rain per year and only humidity we get is similar to Phoenix where we get monsoonal moisture late July through Labor day.
