I currently don't have a radio at all. The previous owner removed it and covered the opening with a plastic shield. I purchased the Boss BE62CP (I wanted a volume knob) and plan on installing it this weekend. I do occasionally listen to FM radio and I really don't want to mess with the external antenna. Is there an internal antenna that can be connected and added somewhere inside my runner (preferably hidden behind the head unit)? I think my Google is broken because I'm not finding the answers. Appreciate y'all!

Why don't you use the antenna that's on the car? You can disable the motor when it's in the up position and it will still work fine. It's not that hard.

Any internal antenna will get worse reception. The rod antennas on these vehicles will give you the best reception possible.

I'm actually not wanting the antenna to be up. However, you are probably right about an internal antenna getting bad reception.

You can buy a stubby antenna, they aren't as high profile as the OEM (when the oem is up at least) and some people said it gets great reception. But you'll have to install it which you might not want to do.

You could always wire a switch to your power antenna motor and control in manually when you want to listen to the radio. The thing that often goes wrong on them is the mast, which can be replaced within 15 minutes and is an inexpensive part from Toyota. It'll give you the best of both worlds.

    I’ll second the stubby adapter
