So I drive a 21 OR 2inch lift, 275 70 17 at3w C load, tire psi 35ish. I wanted to experiment with different mph vs mpg outcomes. I forced myself to drive the speed limit (65) for one tank, 300ish miles, phoenix interstates so pretty flat, manually calculated I got 20.2 mpg which shocked me. Ive done it at 70mph and got approx 18.5 and at 75mph it was approx 17.5. Ill enjoy this mpg until spring when I go to a 3in lift and 34s. Side note did a trip to san diego, loaded down w gf, two kids, two dogs, and a load on the roof rack, cruise set at 85-87 and I was in the 14s mpg lol

So your saying bigger heavier tires, and highway speeds reduce already marginal mpg? Then yes, so will long warm ups in cold temps and prolonged driving in 4wd. It is what it is.

You'd be surprised how comfortable they are at 90 mph.

Did you say 20.2 mpg. Get in line. This is over 60 miles some where outside Santa Fe at about 55 mph I think.

Don't know about everyone else - but the cold weather and winter blend gas here in mid-MO has put a dent in my 4Ruuner's gas mileage. In warmer weather with the summer blend gas - I can get 17-18 mpg around town and ~21 mpg on the hwy if I keep it at 75mph, or less. Now, just driving back and forth to work I'm getting less than 16 mpg - and on a ~240 mile road trip last weekend, that was all highway miles, I only averaged about 18.5 mpg. Totally stock 2023 Limited 4WD. Saw the same thing last winter - its the shitty winter blend gas. Need to move somewhere warm:)

Yup, my mileage goes in the crapper in the winter also. Winter blend gas is part of it. Increased wind resistance and longer warm-up times are factors, too.

The thing is that I agree with @Noodles’ point. I was making a more general comment about how rapidly the thread turned sour. Like so many others recently. Perhaps it’s the stress of the season.

Very clever and original comment. Maybe next you can tell us that we should buy a Prius if we care about fuel economy.

Have you read any of the posts in this thread?

Well now Delta Bravo does have a point. We all purchased a 3-ton vehicle with the aerodynamics of a brick with full knowledge that from its very inception it ignored fuel economy as a virtue. It’s a little late to be obsessing about gas mileage now, no?

Maybe try actually reading the OP and understanding what the thread is about before adding your worthless comments.

I disagree completely. Read the original Post in this thread. It's an observation on the effects of cruising speed on fuel economy.

Without looking back, I don't think anyone was complaining about fuel economy.

I knew exactly what I was buying. But I also know that I have some control over my fuel economy. So, when I'm not in a hurry, I take backroads and cruise at ~60 and get better fuel economy. And, when I'm in a hurry, I accept that I'll be guzzling gas.

Not really. It's safe to say that nobody expects to save gas in the 4Runner. The inquisitive and observant among us enjoy discussing it though. Any data metric of a vehicle or user experience is a worthy topic and ultimately the reason were on the forum.

In fairness, when I borrow a family members Chevy Silverado for yard projects and I fill it up on return, its 12mpg average makes me feel like my 22mpg average in the 4R is dandy.

Sadly, my 4Runner gets worse fuel economy than my Silverado. But, the Silverado can't do what the 4Runner does, so it's a fair trade. :D
