Hey! New to the forum, but just pulled the trigger on a new 4Runner SR5 Premium. Didn't need full off-roading features of any TRD model, but still wanted the nicer interior.

Anyways, I live in Utah and need some new tires. I'm about to get some 17" TRD rims (basic I know), but want a beefier look in addition to practical tires - especially this winter. It seems like most people are either split between BFG KO2's or Falken Wildpeak AT3W, but want to get some more advice before I buy anything.

I'm not planning on getting a lift anytime soon, so am curious on size/fit/comfort/etc.

Any help is appreciated - thanks!

What do you plan to do? I just got some Defender LTX M/S tires in stock size since I don't anticipate needing to go full A/T or M/T but of course they look like any ol' all-season. My second choice would be the BFG Trail-Terrains, I had a competitor (Wildpeak AT Trail, not available for trucks though) on a crossover and it did well enough for my uses.

I went with Goodyear Duratracs since i see a decent amount of snow and wanted something good for my off roading. Not that BFG KO2's or Falken Wildpeak aren't, but IMO Duratracs came highly recommended in my area.

IMO they are some of the best in the snow for an AT.

I just had the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss At's installed... excellent performance in Dry, Wet and Snow. ( I like them much better than Wildpeak AT3's and BFG KO'2) Also carry the 3PMS (Severe Snow Service) Rating!

    My vote is the Falkens.

Excellent tires. Run them on both my Tundra and my 4Runner.

I ordered the Baja Boss ATs a couple days ago. Can’t wait to try them out because the Dunlops from the factory are a joke.

No specific recommendation here as I still have the stock Nitto Terra Grapplers on my TRD Pro, but just be aware that the 3 Peak Mountain Snowflake rating actually only means the tire has 10% better acceleration on snow than a standard all season M&S tire. It’s not really a tremendous difference, so don’t assume it’s anything close to a true winter tire. They don’t test braking, turning or ice performance, strictly medium packed snow acceleration, and only require 10% better than their baseline average all season tire to get the 3PMS rating (can be even better but the test doesn’t quantify how much better). Also not all tires go through this testing, so a lack of the rating doesn’t mean it wouldn’t meet that performance standard on snow.
