Hey guys I have a 2023 SR5. Considering throwing on an Eaton Elocker on it.

anyone have any experience doing this? What was your thoughts? Just as good or better as the locker on off road models?

    thanks

I have a friend who installed a front e-locket from Easton on his Tacoma and said it functions the same as the factory rear locker. If I install a front e-locker it will be an Easton.

Check out ECGS for a 3rd member with the locker installed. That’s how I upgraded my LE.

Did you upgrade to 4.56 or 4.88 gear while doing this?

I went with ARB lockers and 4.88. I’m able to manage what amounts to almost 100lbs per corner and 35” Toyo MTs. My next tire might be MT Baja 37”. They weigh about the same.

I would keep a notepad in your glovebox and record each time you get stuck because you didn’t have a locker. When the score gets to three, buy a locker.

There’s more to it than forward traction. Down hill control is improved using the rear locker while engine braking. Especially if the hill is rutted. Here’s a good explanation

Do you mean is the ARB locker better than the factory E-locker? You could argue the carrier on the ARB is beefier but there’s notching wrong with the OE locker per se. Especially if your rig came with it!

After market lockers can be run in 2WD and 4 Hi..... while the factory locker only works in 4 Lo, and automatically disengages at a particular speed (I forget the exact speed....but remember it's relatively low).

That post is solely talking about the utility of a rear locker downhill, I don’t think there’s anything to lean towards OEM or aftermarket in that context.
