I’ve heard Toyota’s OE brake pads are actually pretty good. Considering the larger wheels & tires most of us are running are there any significant improvements in performance going aftermarket pads? Coming from a MTB racing background I’ve always been conscious of rotational weight. Right now my wheel & tire setup is approx. 11lbs. more each wheel from stock.

what improvements of what kind of performance you seek ? shorter stopping distance? all pads the same, they clamp rotors. that's it. you just choose what you get for price you paid: wear, dust, noise, brand. Everything is a compromise. 1 pound of wheel weight adds 10 pounds of load to a car, and that affect MPG. 4 wheels by 11 lb = 44 lbs and that add 440 pounds to load. 4runner max load 5K#. over it stopping is longer.
