I have a 2013 Toyota 4Runner SR5. Back story: I had an after market remote start professionally installed a couple of months ago. When I first got it installed, I had to take it back because they installed a wire wrong (my high beams triggered my door open light on the dash). Once I took it back they fixed it and I never had any issues.
This week i started my car with the auto start. I then was driving down the road and my 4Runner died and all the lights on the dash came on at once, it then came back on like nothing happened. It died again about 10 min later but this time didn’t come back on. I pulled over, shut the car off. When I restarted it with the key and it fired up perfectly. It hasn’t done it since, but I haven’t used the remote start since. I had the battery checked and it’s perfect.
anyone have any experience with this? I don’t want to insult the company that installed the remote start, but all signs are pointing to it.

Welcome to the forum. It might help generate helpful responses to know which aftermarket product you had installed.

This sounds like an installer issue or possible defective unit. If they are wiring from a single wire to multiple triggers in the car, and not diode isolating properly, you’re going to have more issue in the future. Knowing more about what system you installed and how it was installed will help.

What brand and model remote start did you have installed?
Was it just the remote start or alarm and keyless entry also?
Did they use a T harness or hardwire everything?

This is the model # of the remote start that was installed. It is equipped with keyless entry also.as far as I know, they used a t-harness. When I took it back to have them fix the first issue I believe they had to hard wire some in.

I think that’s the model/part number for your key fob. Do you know what the model number for the main unit/module is?

I don’t, but I should be able to call and ask. The place I went only offered 3 different units. I’m not sure what else would cause complete shut down of the vehicle like that. My 4Runner also just had a full inspection from the dealership done before the remote start was installed.
