    Hey guys,

I want to install a switch to neutralise the ABS on my truck. I admit that my tires don't have ideal winter traction, even though they sport the mandatory snowflake emblem as required by this godforsaken province.
Regardless, I simply want to disable it at will. I've scoured the site and have Googled this as well, nada.

    Thx

    Why exactly?
And can it be done? Not really. Its a safety feature that works with other safety features and is all run by a computer. Simply adding a "switch" isn't an option.

You would probably get a ton of error lights going. But if there is an abs fuse that can be pulled, that would at least tell you how the computer would react to abs being shut off (do that at your own risk, I have no idea if this would cause problems).

Are you doing this because the abs keeps pumping at super slow speeds causing you to be unable to stop? I had that happen to me once and it pissed me off. At slow speeds of 1 to 5mph, even most types of ice will give enough traction to stop with locked wheels faster than abs will allows. I felt stupidly helpless going 2mph, abs pumping away, as I rolled through a stop sign. I swear Ive driven smarter abs setups that know when to just keep the wheels locked at very slow speeds (in fact, I think our 18 highlander just keeps them locked).

Hmm, I just thought of something…. I don’t remember if I had any steering angle in when it slid…could be the computer was prioritizing turning over stopping if I had wheel slightly turned.

I think pulling the fuse and dealing with the dash lights like @McSpazatron mentioned might be the only way. I suppose you could splice in a switch.

There's times I would prefer to not have it as well.

After just a few months of ownership, I have definitely noticed that the ABS on my 4Runner is very "aggressive". Much more so than on my past Tacomas and Tundras. Not sure that i'd want to completely disable it.....but I would like to tone it down a bit.

Wouldn't turning off ABS cause 4WD problems? Specifically 4LO?

Dr KDSS has an elegant solution to disable ABS, although kind of expensive for what you get. (He does have decent directions on how to access the 4WD control module).

You can achieve the same thing without a relay, only a switch.
