    Hello,

I got a 97 4x4, I came across an issue with my AC. Before anyone says its compressor/ the ground, stuck clutch, my ac ONLY turns on (cold gooche air vent, cold windshield vents, rpm goes up ect) if i put on my front defroster and turn on the air. Keep in mind this only works when I fully take out the AC button and have nothing plugged into the connector. As soon I put in the button and press 10 amp fuse blow and rpm drops.

Ive bought prob 3 replica buttons off Amazon and ebay so far, pulled the dash apart to see if wire are broken to the pins that take the switch,

If anyone can shed some light if 97vs2000 buttons are different internally, is there some other relay or resistor that the AC button triggers vs me moving the lever to defroster to turn on AC.

    thanks

My initial reaction is that you have a short somewhere in the circuit that gets completed when the button is pushed in. You may be able to look up the part in McGeorge (https://toyotaonlineparts.mcgeorgetoyota.com/) or PartSouq.com to see whether there are different part numbers for the button for 97 vs. 2000. Is this an automatic A/C or manual? I think the automatic one has a bunch of relays.

You need the FSM wiring diagram for your year and, yeah, there's a short somewhere else. I don't think the button isn't going to be the issue.
