Hello all! I have always wanted a second gen 4 runner and am finally in a position where I can afford to get one. This will be a second vehicle for me, used for short commutes around my small town or very light off-roading, camping trips, etc.

I found a 95 that I am very interested in close by, but wanted to get opinions on the price, as well as any other advice that would suit me for when I look at it next week.

I have read varying opinions on the 3.0 6 cylinder, could anyone that owns one give me an honest rundown of its reliability and anything I should have my eye on for the mileage this vehicle is sitting at?

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
Nice that it isn’t in the rust belt, has a 5spd and appears to be in VG condition, especially the side of the drivers seat. The houndstooth fabric is nearly indestructible but the vinyl sides crumble/crack first. I actually switched seat bases with the passenger side to put the bad side against the console. Personally I don’t care for the 3.0 but some folks have very good luck with them.

Yeah its so clean. Its exactly what I have been looking for. Do you have any input on the listed price? Does that seem fair assuming it actually does drive well and looks as good in person?

The price seems a little strong for the miles but almost everyone “fishes” at first on the price. Whether the add-ons make up for the extra $ is a personal preference.

With prices coming down on new and used vehicle, I think the price is high for a vehicle with that many miles on it. If you plan on getting it, make sure you get a mechanic to thoroughly inspect it.

I'm less concerned about the miles than the age. Anything rubber or electrical that hasn't been replaced could be on its last legs. I also wouldn't trust the location as an ironclad proxy for the condition of frame and suspension.

3.0 isn't as bad as its reputation is. Yes they can experience head gasket problems, but as long as you take care of them and keep the cooling system extra healthy and don't push it they are pretty reliable. Still way better than most other engines from other companies

Price is a little high for my taste but its all based on location. Some places do have higher markets than others. You definitely want to go over the thing with a fine tooth comb and look for any reason to drop the price down on it
