It has an automatic trans. Recall motor. So I'm thinking engine swap. If you have done this swap. I'm looking for a kit. Motor mounts, bell housing, etc. Possibly small block swap or diesel swap. The electrical side is my bread and butter. I can fab and cut plate and tube. But I'm not a guy with tons of welding experience. Thanks.

Is your motor actually bad? You have the 3.0, that motor has never been recalled. There was a TSB back in the mid 90's that replace the head gasket and some people got new motors due to warping issues when the gasket failed. That said, most people who replace the 3.0, go with the next gens 3.4. There is a kit sold just for that I believe. And by the way, welcome.

Not mine says it drives but has bad headgasket. Not sure it can be rebuilt. If it could. Does the new head gasket resolve the issue? Or is it prone to headgasket issues no matter what.

Lots of unknowns until the head is removed, but the gaskets can be replaced and you may never have that issue again, assuming nothing is warped and the cooling system is ok. Headgaskets, timing components, etc. all add up. I would plan for all those parts plus have the heads resurfaced and a valve job performed. Then, do a cost comparison with the swap. Those blocks can get damaged from headgasket leaks so that could throw a kink in your estimate. That's probably going to be a huge bill and it will still feel underpowered when fixed.

3.4 is a straight up swap except the dipstick and oil pan? Sounds too good to be true. What about the electronics?

LKQ doesn't know anything about what they sell. I sent Toyota 3.4L V6 motor. Here is their response.

We search by vin or year and model

Hi there, I believe that Yota1 sells everything you need to perform the 5VZ swap. If you do it yourself it'll run you around 6K. I spent that amount to have my 3VZ completely balanced and blueprinted. I wish that I could have afforded a 1UZ swap to be honest...it's the engine that Toyota SHOULD have used in 2nd gen 4runner's and 3rd gen Pickups .

    Best of luck to you.
