    Hi everyone,

I'm looking at suspension upgrade options for the future, and just wanted to see if there is anything out there like the Bilstein 6112 for rear suspension.

To clarify and some additional info:

I've been researching different suspension options for a while now. In a perfect world I would love to have FOX 2.5 PES all around, but the reality is that I just don't have the time to send these out for rebuilding every 30-50k miles.

I do not do any rock crawling, but a lot of my driving is on rough washboard roads. I do a lot of driving through rocky desert roads with extra weight in the back which brings me to my next point.

The car gets packed pretty full with days worth of camping gear and often times a few thousand rounds of ammo which gets pretty heavy.

As far as mods: I only have a Gobi full length roof rack, stock sized Toyo RT Trail tires in load range E.

In the future I may replace the engine skid plate with RCI aluminum or LFD aluminum.

I do have a 10k synthetic winch waiting to be installed that will go with an LFD hybrid steel bumper (I'm pretty sure the two will add up to about 100ish lbs).

I'm not chasing any aesthetics, I just don't want the 4Runner sagging from all that extra weight. I think the 6112's up front with whatever is the correct weight spring will be good, but the rear suspension is where I'm having trouble deciding.

I see quite a few reports of 5160's leaking, and it seems like the 5100's hit shock fade relatively quick (there's times I drive hours on end through these roads). The 6112's look to be ideal - not crazy expensive, long lifespan, good performance. Is there anything from other brands that compares?

    Thanks

If you aren't afraid to have mismatched shock brands I believe the OME MT64s are a good match to the 6112s. Not quite apples to apples but that's what I went to on my 3rd gen Tacoma after the 5160s weren't performing as well as I would have liked. They offer a medium and heavy load option as well.

My setup is 6112 front, 5100 rear. I load mine up same as yours and I drive washboard, rutted, rocky roads for miles on end throughout Idaho and Oregon. It’s been a perfect setup with zero issues. Best of all, both have a lifetime warranty.
