Does anyone know if any 75W-90 fluid is ok for my 5th Gen SR5 transfer case? Are there any requirements other than being 75W-90?

    70W-90 works just fine.

The transfer case does have a synchromesh ring. Some say it’s not a big deal, but I’m playing it safe and using the toyota liquid gold gear oil as called for in the manual.

I had a TC failure. Not sure what caused it exactly, but the failure involved the synchro ring, and it happened while using an aftermarket gear oil I thought was supposed to be safe for synchros. I spent more time thinking of suitable gear oil options than it was truly worth. Just pay the man his money in return for a can of the good stuff.

Here are the details of my tc failure if you’re interested.

I used Redline MT-LV to split the difference between Toyota fluid and the 75W-90 going into my differentials. That's what I'd recommend for the budget-minded but get a quote for the Toyota stuff first.

(but also since I had some lying around already)

I used the Redline MT-LV for the transfer case as well vs the Redline 75W85 I used for the front and rear diffs. It may be my imagination but I felt the truck shifted into 4H & 4L more smoothly with the Redline transfer case fluid that with OEM.

I went with Redline MT-LV as well. Not only is it the same weight as stock but it's also a GL-4 which is safe for syncros.

I did a lot of research into what oil to use in the transfer case and after reading a lot of threads and watching the car care nut's video on it I decided 75W-90 was fine. I run amsoil and am changing the fluid every 30K but my second choice was Red Line MT-LV 70W/75W GL-4. I am going to perform an oil analysis at my next change out and will post it online once I get it back.

I use Redline MT-LV in the TC. Its Low sulfur formula lacks the reactive sulfurs found in most GL-5 oils that cause damage and is safe for brass synchronizers

Trying to find Redline MT-LV seems to be out of stock on Amazon and most other dealers. The best I can find is the 1 gallon jug directly from Redline but their shipping is a bit high and they only have the 1 gallon jugs.

I am switching to Ravenol next time around in the 4Runner and Tacoma T-Case. Redline 75w85 GL5 in the diffs.

Used to be able to get the Toyota fluids for a little cheaper online through various dealer sales including free shipping but the cost for them now is just plain stupid.
