5th gen on 35s

I am about to order 35 inch General Grabbers. Will report how things go.

 

$407 PER tire? Damn. I never realized they would be that expensive. So after taxes, you're paying probably $1800; just for tires. Now I see why you had questions about a viper cut. Shit, you'll need that and a lift. You're lifted, right?

I'm curious how much your MPG's will drop after you install these bad boys.

I am going with Grabber because it is a true 35 inch tire, KO2 is 34.5, I am already 33.8

 

Bumpstops > Lift in terms of fitting bigger tires. That's how the Bronco does it for the Sasquatch package.

I also remember seeing something about how the tires with inch measurements cost more than the ones that use the metric numbers...which is sort of funny if it's true.

 

Lift doesn't clear tires. It just hides rubbing.

Wheel offset, alignment, trimming, and, in the case of 35's, beating the shit out of the firewall with a sledgehammer clear tires.

An exception would be a body lift, or drop bracket lift.

True. Limiting up-travel is another way to clear tires.

All tires that big are crazy expensive right now. But, it might be worth looking into this pricing discrepancy.

 

My vote to keep 34s you have.

I was even keeping my eyes on 34 x 10.5R17. Toyo OC Load D are 55lbs. 10.5in width is 266+mm so not look odd or ugly as 255mm tires on 4runner body style.

If I go 35tire crazy, I would more likely to order a Wrangler with 35in tires and pick the old school 3.6v6 directly from factory. Just my thought..

I don't consider the 4 door a Jeep. And 2 door would limit my activities, so 4Runner was my only choice.

 

So...they'll use a rubber mallet or ball pen hammer instead of a sledge?

True, 4runner is the best for my needs of comfort ride and with my dog needs.

Hope you take your time and see if you really need to go 35in route. I don't know since I don't have much experience. But I'm thinking relatively lighter 34 would keep the 4runner daily driveable yet very capable offroad may be even almost same as 35 capable yet keep is reliable. Unless spending money for 35in project one after another.

I don't want to scare but just my honest thoughts thinking to myself is it worth if I do it. Hope you don't get it wrong as discouraging.

Yeah, considering 33.5" tires hit my firewall on whoops, I have some doubts.

 

I'd leave it in S4. I have to leave mine in S4 at that speed with the MT's. It would get worse mileage in overdrive due to the constant downshifting.

 

Also, if you think it's slow and gear hunts with 33.8", wait until the bigger, heavier 35s are put on.

I don't have personal experience but have read 34s are about the max before a regear

 

Honestly, my 295's could use a regear. It's not bad in regular driving, but you really feel it when you punch it. Plus, our crawl gear kinda sucks to begin with, so I really need to use a lot of brake on steep descents off-road. I'll probably go with 285's next time or strongly consider a regear.

 

I was surprised how much difference there was between the stock 265s and the 285s I put on. They are SL and not that heavy compared to the C and E loads most people run

My wife has 265/70/17 and I have 285/70/17. It’s a noticeable difference going between the two.

 

You are spot on about the Jeep. This guy fitted 37s with just a lift, Teraflex 3 inch. But it is not a Jeep in my book, it is the SUV version of the Gladiator pickup
