I recently purchased a set of the DS-18 "Subaru and Toyota" tweeters. These are substantially similar to the Kicker version.

I got a really good deal on them from DS-18 via ebay ($51 and free shipping) plus they threw in 2 of those 4-pin plug to 2-wire adapters, which I didn't need in my case but may be of use in the future.

I have installed these tweeters, which takes about 10 minutes in total for both of them. The DS-18's have a female 4-pin clip built onto the back (like the stock 2-3/4" speakers) so it literally is as simple as disconnecting the 4-pin plug from the 2-3/4" and plugging it into the back of the tweeter. The hardest part of all was apparently Toyota tightens the factory2-3/4" speaker mounting bolts to the mounting adapter using some ridiculous torque. The bracket is so flimsy that I nearly bend it while trying to remove them.

Anyway, I wanted some clarification on the wiring system (I have a 2021 ORP). Is there some sort of bass blocker or resistor inline (downstream of the split that carries on to the front door speakers)? I looked on a lot of Tacoma forums as this is a popular mod and no one else bothered with any kind of x-over or bass-blocker/resistor. Likewise, is there something similar on the door speaker to clip the highs? Not as much of an issue with the door midwoofer.

I really like the improvement in sound quality with these tweeters (especially for the price and the minimal time investment).

Well...I would be surprised if the factory 2-3/4" were meant to be full range and that there was not some sort of high-pass to clip the lows and protect the 2-3/4" driver.
