I am conflicted... I love the bells and whistles (eg. Big screen infotainment) and all the safety features. BUT...I live simple as well. Today I am driving a brand new F250. It is just a well built, utilitarian truck.

I must admit I am enjoying my day just driving. No bells and whistles to get in my way! That's what I appreciate about pre 2020 4Runners...relatively straight forward, rock solid vehicles!

    Am I crazy?

Well theres less to go wrong with a more basic vehicle. A lot of those extras take chips to run them and we all know theres a shortage.

I agree, I would rather have less fancy stuff, but I’m very happy to have a 5th gen, before they change even more. If I had listened to my wife, I would have had a 2017 or maybe even an early one, but I wanted a taco.

Also, tech gets dated quickly. A 4Runner will mechanically outlast the tech!

You think a brand new F-250 doesn’t have the same or better safety features as a 4Runner? I can turn off the infotainment stuff anytime I want. Or just ignore it. I’m over having a pickup. I was seriously considering buying an F-250 and I’m so glad I didn’t. Since I was 13 I have driven a pickup and I can tell you I’ve never been more happy with an everyday driver than I am today.

I'd wager to say all 4Runner's fall into the straight forward/rock solid vehicle category. TSS hasn't made them any less reliable. Some guys like to complain about it but you can always just turn it off ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
