I was rocking an Ironman4x4 Nitro 3" lift for a few years, but the 4R is going back to family duty primarily. I found a full TRD Pro suspension locally for $300 and figured that would do well for around-town and occasional camping trips.

I got the set rebuilt for about $700 at my local offroad shop (Impulse Offroad in SLC if you're in these parts). Then I picked up a set of used stock 5G UCAs and rear springs. All in I'm about $1200.

Like every other 5G suspension installed on a 4G, I had to drill out the upper shock mounts in the rear to about 1" (I used a step bit). I also could've used the bushings from my Ironman shocks and am kicking myself for not just swapping them over (since I can't undo drilling), but whatever.

Then I had to grind down the lower mounts on the front struts to about 40mm. I used calipers to measure the lower strut mount on the LCA and both sides were 39.8mm. The lower bushings on the Fox struts were 41.5mm. I just used a flappy disc on my angle grinder then used my calipers to make sure I was removing material equally all around. After grinding, I still had to use a soft mallet to get the lower strut in, but they were hot from grinding and my garage was about 30*F so it probably evens out, right?

I am running Icon Rebound Pro 17x8.5 wheels with 0 offset and Milestar Patagonia X/T 285/75/17 and have less than 2" of clearance between the sidewall and external reservoir in the rear. No clearance concerns up front (on the struts anyway).

Overall the install was pretty easy. I did it myself over a few evenings and clearanced plastics/pinchwelds and replaced swaybar mounts/links while things were apart.

Compared to the Ironman lift, the Fox suspension rides like butter. Way more comfortable on road

Before and after both look great. Glad you got the ride dialed in for its new purpose!
