I thought I would ask like minded people with the same Toyota sickness that I have.
I have a 2007 Sr5 4wd 4runner with 158000 miles and a 2022 SR 4door 2wd Tacoma with 17500 miles that is a lease with one year left. I am trying to decide what to do at the end of my lease. I bought the 4runner a year ago and have zeroed out the maintenance on it, just installed a Sony camera with backup camera, and front and rear beilstein 5100 shocks. I bought it for a second vehicle and it has now turned into our primary vehicle. I am thinking of trading in the Tacoma or waiting till the end of the lease and getting a 5 gen 4runner SR5 premium, but I think I will miss the truck as I do haul things for the yard every other weekend or so. I have thought of a Harbor Freight folding trailer but that could be a pain and space may be an issue as I park both vehicles in the garage. Another option would be buying the Tacoma. So my question is does anyone have two 4Runners and use a trailer and is it a pain.

Ha, I’m in almost the same boat as you. I have a 2004 4Runner v8, and a 2014 AC Tacoma v6. 4runner has nearly 250k miles and my Tacoma has 92k miles. 4runner has sort of become my primary just cause it’s fun and comfy to drive.

can you just go down to the 07’ 4Runner? 158k miles isn’t anything to worry about, or do you need 2 vehicles? If I was making payments on my Tacoma I would have already gotten rid of it. I love it tho and it’s modded to my liking, which is why I haven’t sold it.

you can haul quite a bit in the back of the 4Runner with the seats down. But I can’t help with your exact question of owning 2 4Runners and a trailer but I’m inclined to say don’t go that route. If anything keep your Tacoma and 4runner, like me lol

Personally never understood the idea of redundant vehicles (i.e. two 4Runners). I think you'd end up driving one and storing one.

Like the other guy said, if you need two vehicles, 4R + Taco is a fine combo. If you don't need two vehicles, then you probably know which one you'd rather have.

I went from a Taco to a 4R a few years ago; only missed the Taco one time while towing too heavy for the 4R. I do more home improvement than the average person as well, and have no issues with long lumber, plywood, mulch etc. Rented a trailer one time for some stone (1 ton of rip rap, which ain't fitting in a Taco bed anyway), but that's it.

Gkomo thank you for your reply. I have a company vehicle for my day to day driving but I cannot use it for personal plus like I stated I have the Toyota sickness. The 4Runner I was planning on building a mild off road rig but is so clean I did not want to modify it and the interior is so clean I do not want to haul lumber and landscaping supplies in it.

You have a runner and taco, best of both worlds. If you can by the taco at the end, that’s what I’d do. I miss my taco, but love the runner. I can see getting a truck to add to our driveway eventually.

I do miss my 2nd gen Tacoma from time to time but plan to remedy that when our oldest starts driving in a couple of years haha. I say keep what you have until your needs change.

I'm with the others on here, of you only need one vehicle keep the 4runner. What you save in car payments and insurance on the second vehicle you can do alot upgrades on your 4runner. Plus 4th gen are best:yay:

I am leaning to keep the Tacoma but I did check out the new Tacoma when I was getting my last free oil change and tire rotation it was nice.

Careful, that's how they get you.

That plus throwing a grand on top of your quoted residual value on your lease (which is basically nothing due to inflation), and if you don't watch out they've suckered you into another 5-7 years of payments.

What is the buyout price on your leased Tacoma?

I you use the Taco for hauling, I'd go with a 4 4Runner/Taco combo. The 4th gen Tacos look pretty awesome, although I might wait a few months for any glaring issues to surface.

Today was the first day a hauling landscaping supplies without a truck. I rented a 5x9 U-Haul trailer and picked up a yard and half of mulch. I could have handled more. The trailer actually made it easier as it was lower to the ground so it was easier to shovel out of. I am very happy with the decision to get rid of the Tacoma and get another 4Runner.
