    Hello,
New member and fairly new to 4Runner ownership. I have an 04' 4Runner Sport w/ XReas. My wife and I love to hike and explore and we do a lot of of off-road traveling but we don't do any "off-roading" for sport, we just need to get from point A to point B and back safely. The car is completely bone stock, no extra weight, and the struts and shocks are completely shot. I want to delete XReas, put some new shocks on and get about a 3" lift in front and 1" rear. Don't want or need high performance, we want an absolutely comfortable ride for daily driving and high clearance for remote exploring. Would love to hear any suggestions. I will be doing the install myself, I have a good amount of experience working on my vehicles. Thanks

I've looked at struts like the Bilstein's with adjustable perches but most comments are that they make for a stiffer ride and I don't really like the idea of getting lift by increasing preload. I thought about just getting spacers and buying stock KYB struts and shocks...?

Not an expert on X-reas by any means but from what I have read, you have 2 options. Either repair the X-reas system or replace it completely with conventional front coilovers/rear shocks(springs?). Do a search on here. This has been discussed many times & there are a couple good DIY threads.

How much are you looking to spend?

I have the Dobinsons IMS system and can’t recommend it enough.

I’m willing to spend about $2k. What do you like about Dobinsons, how does it compare to your previous set up? Thanks

First, I only have experience with dobinsons on my 4Runner.

second, I am comparing them to my old ass worn out suspension that was on the vehicle when I bought it.

however, it’s plush but firm… just feels solid and beefy. They just handle large undulations and bumps very well. I like the setup. You pick which springs you want (there are a lot). I did a bunch of research and chose my small lift and am 100% satisfied.
