Every so often I get periods where nothing happens when using the key fob. I don't believe this is an issue with the key fob itself, because when it happens, the vehicle won't respond to either remote. I have a new battery in the remote with my keys, and the other one is still new in the plastic bag.

Today, the 4Runner wouldn't unlock the doors from a couple feet away. Hit the button a few times, nothing. Manually unlocked the door with the key. Hit the button on the key fob and suddenly it works.

Seems like maybe the can-bus is sleeping and won't wake up with the remote :notsure:

Yeah, me too... I recently purchased a 2019 4R and experienced a similar failure of a new key fob. On a couple of attempted starts, I had to hold the key fob next to the start button, but I always managed to get 'er running. I'm now carrying the original key fob with me as a backup in case it's a key fob fault.

I traded in a minty 2012 Dodge Durango for the T4Runner and had an occasional issue with the press to start button. The engine would turn over but not start and just kept turning over. I had to take my foot off the brake pedal and press the start button several times and then it would finally stop turning over. Next attempt to start would not be an issue. Gotta love technology. Engineers in today's world do stuff just because it can be done and not because it adds value to a product.
