3in lift tire size?

    I am a bit of a 4Runner newbie. I just installed a 3in lift on my 2011 Limited. I am pretty set on BFG KO2’s but have no idea what size tire I want/need. I have seen the 5th gen tire fitment guide on here but I really have nothing to base my decision on. Stock tires are 245/60R20. I don’t mind small mods to prevent rubbing but this is my mom car & I would like to drive it until the earth takes back the frame. Also would prefer to keep my stock wheels to keep the grocery getter aesthetic. Pic is 3in lift on stock tires.

    There is a very knowledgeable Youtuber "tinkerer's adventure" and many senior members say lift doesn't do anything to clear 33in tires.

    How ever I used a 2.5in front and pushed the fender liner forward to clear 33ish 285/70R15 tires with TRD ORP wheels. Right now I have about 2.5in front & 1.5in rear lift. Since you have full 3in lift and ok to switch to 17in wheels and tires I think you can go 285/70R17 tires with pushing the fender liner forward.

    Agree with Kmeeg about not necessarily keeping factory wheels. You can still get the factory look with 17s. But if it’s truly just a “grocery getter” you’re after, then you can save money with your factory wheels.

    If however you are doing all of this because you’d like to take it off-road, or on rough roads, you’ll definitely appreciate the extra rubber provided by 17” tires.

    Once you know what size wheels you’ll use, then it’s really just a matter of wide tires (extra traction) or pizza cutters (gas mileage and better rubbing clearance).

    Depends on your desires though :)

    A few months ago I screenshot a pic from another member on this forum who kept his stock wheels. I think he used 3in spacers and ran 33’s. I’d have to go back and see if I still have that pic.

    I’m not against new wheels, I just really liked the way this fella’s rig looked on stocks.

    I have a 2018 sr5 with a nitro 3 inch level lift kit 65210k, 2 in back and 3 in front. I did no modifying whatsoever and I have no rubbing, I did that based off everything I read here.

    I attached a pic of my current setup.

    I’m running 285/70/17 falken wildpeaks.

    I would agree, hence the 3in lift. Just running into problems with wanting to keep my 20in wheel. Might pull the trigger on 17’s.

    This is bfg at ko2 on 265/70/17 on stock wheels with 2.5" front lift.

    I went 265 to keep on road performance since my daily driver and road trip vehicle. I am not ready to regear or suffer from gear hunting on the highway. These are C rated. I have had the BFG AT KO2 in E on my Tacoma and was not happy with the ride. Much better with the C rated.

    RSG sliders are on order the Predator steps are going shortly.

    3” lift? How did you do it? If you replaced XREAS, and did a suspension lift, you may be in for a harsh ride. IE, you have no down travel.

    Hopefully that’s not the case.

    Rough country suspension lift. I only went with RC because I had it sitting in my garage. (Hubby is a liquidator) Got rid of XREAS. upload_2023-5-5_21-2-38.jpg Rides like a lifted truck. I honestly don’t feel much of a difference but my other ride is a half ton truck so maybe I’m used to it? I don’t hate it on stock wheels but I don’t love it.

    That’s exactly what I did. It rides like a lifted rig. Not too bad. I actually prefer it over the stock suspension.

    RSG sliders, Yakima offgrid basket, Pro-Comp wheels, SOS Streamline bumper and skids, Warn VR EVO10S winch + Ultimate Sidewinder, Bilstein 6112 + 5100 + rear lift coils, Rigid Dually SS ditch lights w/Caliraised brackets and OEM style dash switch
    ~33" tires can usually be fit with a good alignment and some plastic trimming. Your best bet for fitting them would be to keep the lift smaller and keep the OEM upper control arm. Since you already lifted, though, you can just focus on the trimming.

    As mentioned above, lift does NOT clear tires. You might not rub as often, due to the increased ride height, but once you flex the suspension, it can rub.

    Tires with more sidewall are advantageous for off-roading, but not necessary for a mall crawler. If you want to keep the 20" wheels, go for it.
