    Hello (again) - I've been inactive for quite some time...95 4R has been sitting as I bought a 2000 too. But I would like to resolve some things on my 95. This thread is about the heater core only, another has a new starting issue.

    UPDATE - has a V6.

    The heater core leaks. It 'blew up' driving down the road last year IIRC. So, I drove it 1/2mi back to it's partking area. I tried a bypass, using the existing hoses, and they almost work ideally as a bypass, but one kinks and seems to restrict the flow enough so that the temp goes up (past 1/2) when it shouldn't and never did previously.

    So I have 2 options;
    1 - bypass correctly (I can do)
    I was told (a year ago?) that Gates makes 2 short right angle hoses that I can use as a bypass.

    2 - replace heater core
    Do I want to do this or pay someone?
    How big of a job is this ?
    I called advance and they cant get one, does this mean I have to take the old one out and get it soldered ? I used to be a electronics solderer by trade, but am not set up to do this now.

    My other post is about non-starting that started recently.

    Replace it! Rock Auto has them, they will probably be 1/2 the price of local auto parts stores, even though advanced can't get one. The money you might save from Rock Auto vs local store you can apply to hiring the job done. Someone knows how to do it, I know that heater cores can sometimes be not fun to do. It's better to keep the heat/AC system working than to let it sit and then try to get it going later. Good luck

    Good advice. No Rock Autos nearby though. Any clues (anyone) as to how the core is removed, as I might do it myself ?

    Rock Auto is a online parts order warehouse, they expedite parts from several locations based on your location and where the parts are. You go online to rockauto.com

    I take it you read the other post about the repair manuals? They would walk you through the process of core removal and replacement.. you might have to take the whole dash out, maybe not.. The manuals are your friend mikey777! Good luck.

    Personally I would replace ot myself. But it depends on your knowledge. Taking the dash apart isn't that hard, just a bit time consuming. I've probably done it 6 or 7 times and have to go do it again ‍♂️ If you don't care for your heater a bypass is totally possible. Get a hose that will fit in the shape of a U from the parts store and get some clamps and call it good

    Thx and yes I read the other replies. I know a lot abt cars and engines etc, but as I'm over 60, the issue is, what I want to spend my time on or not. I'd rather pay someone, but I'd prefer another 4R owner I can trust.
