I'm planning to install a 2nd battery in my 18 4 runner and was wondering if anyone has done so and where they put it. I have #4 welding wire and a VSR and was hoping to run it from the engine compartment through the frame and into the same area as the factory outlet in the R/R cargo area.

I put mine on the passenger side using the C4 tray. On the drivers side I have the off grid engineering tray with blue sea ACR.

Would #4 cable be good to connect the two batteries and run it to the inverter in the rear cargo area ?

Are you set on a permanent battery under the hood? Maybe consider a lithium portable that you can move around as needed. I bungee cord a Jackery 500 in the back seat area to run a fridge in the truck, take it out for local AC/DC power and phone charging while camping or at the beach, emergency power at home. It works for me. No need for mechanical mods, charging system mods, or power wiring problems.

Never thought of a portable battery, I was going to mount a permanent second battery under the hood and run cables to the rear for a inverter.
