285's or 265's

Got my 4runner leveled today. 2” up front stock height in the back with a 6112/5100 setup. I bought the truck last year private party and it came with 275/65r18’s on some Raceline assault wheels 0 offset with 5 even backspacing. I don’t rub on road or off road. I’ve done mostly light trails and some intermediate stuff. I get pretty close to rubbing on the front both towards the fender and the mud flap with the wheels fully turned. I know if I removed the mud flap I’d have plenty of room. The truck hasn’t been aligned either.

I’m looking to get some Icon Rebounds in the 0 offset with 4.75 backspacing and some KO2s In 285/70r17. Do y’all think they’ll fit? Or am I better off sticking with 265’s? I don’t want to have to modify the truck since I just got it. But I also want the benefits of the larger tire and wouldn’t want to limit myself from being able to do some harder trails in the future.

 

Welcome! 265's will certainly fit and 285's might fit, and that is the simple answer because each truck is a bit different. A zero or negative offset wheel increases the chances that you will rub a bit. There are a bunch of online tire size calculators that will let you pay with all the different parameters to get a better idea. You could also check with a local tire shop and see if they would allow a test fit with a bigger tire. Some will and others won't.

I'd recommend wheels with a backspacing of 4.5".

Maybe look into 255 80 17. Seems to be a popular size lately.

 

I have 285/70/17 on stock ORP wheels with a two inch lift. I had to trim the front bumper slightly to stop it from rubbing on full lock when compressed. From all the research I did before buying my tires and lift I would plan on having to either trim the front bumper and/or remove the mud flaps upfront. I don’t think either is a big deal and no one can tell I even trimmed the bumper. If you still want mud flaps up front there is a company who makes some slim ones that would probably fit but I can’t remember the name of them off hand.

Went from 265 BFG on Pro wheels to 285 BFG on Methods 0 offset. I did fenderliner mod and trimmed some . Had to remove mud flaps and really need a BMC. I like the way it handles so I'm not messing with alignment to not touch body mount. You'll also lose some MPG's going to 285. Good luck with your choice.
