285/70/17 Toyo AT3 or Falken Wildpeak A/4TW

I am considering both in P/Standard Load

The Falken weighs 53.4#
The Toyo weighs 46#

Anybody been on both? Is one quieter?

 

Between Falken AT3W vs Toyo AT3;

I cannot really tell about the noise level as Toyo AT3 on my TRD Pro with noisy TRD Exhaust vs Falken AT3W on my quieter Limited. But coasting on downhill I think Toyo AT3 is quieter. IMO not much of a difference though. Much quieter than stock Nitto Terra Grapplers and way quieter than GY Wrangler Duratracs.

Maybe because Toyo AT3 is lighter or have rolling resistance it feels like I still have stock 265s, much easy on the drivetrain.

 

Having less weight is always helpful.

 

I can speak for the Falken as I have owned 2 sets. They are quiet on the road and off road traction is good. They have extremely weak sidewall protection, at least compared to K02s. While they were a good tire, I would not buy them again due to the weak sidewall. Never ran the Toyos but have heard good things.

 

Do you have the AT4s? Their sidewall is beefed up compared AT3s.

 

No, the AT3s are what I had. Good to hear that they beefed up the sidewalls on the AT4s. I must have side-walled 3 or 4 of the AT3s off road.

 

The downside is that they're even heavier.

 

Yikes, That standard load tire weight is closer to BFG KO3 Load E tire. Even with 10ply rated main tread and 3ply side wall its at 56lbs.

 

The Toyo AT3 in 285 are only a couple pounds heavier than the Nitto 265's that come on the TRD Pro.
