265 tires on 5th Gen LTD

I just bought a low mile 23' LTD as a daily car for my family, road trips on holidays.

I'm considering switching the stock 20' wheel to 17' and upgrading to 265. The reason for the switch is only for better appearance IMO.

I've done some search, some say there will be no rub at all with 17' + 265 tires, and some say there will be rubbing.

I don't really want to do any other mod since it's pretty new.

Does anybody have related experience? Please kindly suggest.

 

265 is only the width part of the size. What is the height? And do you mean 285?

 

I just installed the off road premium wheels on my limited last year. I used the ORP 17” wheels because they had the same offset and close enough backspacing to the oem 20 inchers. I have installed Wildpeak AT3 265/70/17 and they rubbed the driver side plastic wheel liner. Like it just kissed it full chock in reverse only. I took a heat gun and a rubber mallet and warmed the liner then pushed it in with the barrel end of the mallet. Literally took 10 minutes and you couldn’t tell I did it.

Maybe a little softer ride with the 17” wheels and tires but negligible difference in my opinion.

 

I have a '23 Limited, with the OEM 20x7 wheels. I upgraded to 275/55 ATs, and it looks a heck of a lot better. This tire size isn't any more expensive than a 265/70-17, so there's that. However, there are a LOT more tire and wheel choices in 17s, even switching to a different model of Toyota wheels (FJ Cruiser, prev gen 4R, Tacoma, etc), and there s/b quite a few listed on your local FB Marketplace. Just look for other Toyota wheels that are 6x5.5/139.7 with a 106.1mm center bore. Be careful of the offset if you switch wheels, that could make the difference between rubbing and not rubbing.
