So it's just about time to get new tires and I've been really wanting to give tall skinnies a try.

But I noticed on all the tire websites, 8.5" wide wheels is the max width for a 255 tire.

That being said, I do a fair amount of off-roading on rocks, so I usually air down my current 265 K02 E loads to about 15psi, sometimes less in the snow and mud.

Considering most 255's are E load, I'd be wanting to air those down too, my concern is risk of blowing a bead.

I've read plenty of posts of folks running 255's on 8" wide wheels, less so on 8.5" wide wide wheels and even less on 8.5" wide wheels AIRED DOWN.

I'm hoping folks with experience running 255's on 8.5" wide wheels aired down can give me some feedback.

    Cheers.

Do 255's on an 8.5" wheel look like this?

I don't think it would be a issue. I'd ask on a jeep forum. 255 75 17 are oem size for jeep wrangler.

I love the look. 8.5" is the max width for the 255 Wildpeaks.

I have two sets- 255 DuraTrac's on 7.5" 4Runner steelies (P-metric) and 255 KO's on 8" Konig's (C-load). I've run as little as 25 PSI with no issues, but not on rocks, just sand and deep snow. With such a small difference in tire sizes between 265 and 255 (3/8") I can't imagine it would be a problem, but anytime you air down you are taking a risk running tires below recommended PSI.

I ran 20psi with my 255's on the 7" wide wheels, I plan to do the same with the 8.5" since they are still within the recommended spec wheels.
