New guy here. Current owner of a 2021 F250 Diesel Tremor. I am about to join the club and get a 5gen 4runner. I want a Pro or self made equivalent. My question to you nut jobs aka experts:

buy 2024 SR5 Premium with 2800mi at $46000 and then basically add to it and make PRO equiv?
    or
Buy 2021/22 TRD Pro with average 30-50K mi for around $49K
    or
Buy 2023 TRD Pro with 18K miles for $56ish

(Prices are averages of what Ive seen)

I know the ORP are a good in between but having hard time finding

I also know there isn't one hard right or wrong answer just curious to see what some of you think

Thank you so much and hoping I didn't start a worthless thread for my first :)

    Newbie out.

Ok I'll bite. Regardless of price, go with the TRD Off Road or a Pro if you have any inkling to do off roading. Both have a rear locker plus other off road items (terrain select, crawl control etc.) that an SR5 won't have. That said, SR5's are very capable in their own right. SR5 is also the only one with an optional 3rd row seat if that's a factor for you.

Try to get what you want, not make something look like something it really isn't (SR5 to Pro).

Whatever you get I'm sure you'll love it!

Thank you. I know it was a mess of a post. Ive been looking at 21-24 TRD Pro. I was just thrown for a loop when the 24 SR5 Premium was avail today at a local dealer. But in the time it took me to run a few errands and really start to think (plus make this thread) the 24 SR5 SOLD. So it was a sign and I agree with your post. Back to the original of what I want.

Cheers, I will be back soon with a purchase. As we speak, Looking at a White 23 TRD Pro for $56 with 13K miles.

    Oooh look, another mod.....
A few questions need to be answered first before choosing one of the three (or any) 4Runner.

    1) What will your budget allow? This is always the final deciding factor. Sure, you may WANT something more, but it boils down to what you can afford.
    2) What will be the main use of this vehicle? Will it be primarily a daily driver that spends 90% + of it's time on pavement?
    3) When you do go offroad, will you do some hard wheelin' or serious rock crawling?

You'll hear some say that Pro's are worthless and you just build your own, you'll hear others say they're the second coming or the 11th commandment. Do your research, trust your gut, and analyze the numbers carefully.

What part of the country are you in? Some areas have more than others... Maybe expand your search?

the manual transfer case and locking rear diff was the reason I went with an ORP instead of an SR5P. Although I like the Fox setup on the Pro, I couldn't justify the cost difference based solely on that..... Plus, I HATE the Pro roofrack. If aesthetics are important to you, you can make an SR5 look exactly like an ORP or Pro for very little money.

If it was me, I would buy the 18k TRD Pro if it was in my budget. It will cost you more than you think to transform an SR5 into a Pro lookalike and it will never be one.

As said by others really consider what off roading you will do. I only do beach sand driving off road and at worse deep soft sand. Since 2000 I have had nothing but SR5s until my now 2022 SR5P and that is only because in Fall of 2021 it was impossible to find a 2021/2022 SR5 anywhere on the East Coast and I stumbled on the P in transit to a local dealer. I have never been stuck with any of the 4 vehicles.
