I bought a 1st gen with mild engine problems (I convinced myself that the price and potential was too good to pass up). I don't know for sure how long the truck sat, but it turns over with the help of some carb cleaner. The engine rocks pretty hard and doesn't idle. I just drained the gas (don't know how long that was in there) and will fill it when I get the new spark plugs. I cleaned the carb and found a lot of suspect hoses. A friend with similar problems suggested changing the main bearings too. Thoughts???

Not sure about the mains, but the fuel pump could be suspect if it sat. Any small amount of ethanol left to sit will gum up everything. PO put a new tank in mine and I ran E gas in it for awhile and she ran OK. But then I got busy so she sat for awhile. I just recently put some non E gas in, and it definitely made a difference. One of the dumbest things the industry ever did.

Thanks. I will be checking the fuel lines next. Updates coming soon. Also where do ya'll get parts from. LCE is where most of the people I know get their stuff, but it gets pricey.

There is used stuff on ebay, but that's hit and miss. LCE is good and 22RE Performance as well. Sometimes pricey is worth it just to avoid the aggravation of bogus parts and long wait times.

fb marketplace sometimes has parts that can be cross referenced as well, at least here if Florida. Drivetrain and hard parts mostly. There might be an enthusiast graveyard with in driving distance sometimes. You never even know they exist until one day they pop up on the radar.
