    With this being the last TNGA-F vehicle to release, there are no real surprises. The owner's manual mentions 144 ways your 4Runner can kill you, up from 115 in the 2024 manual, so it's 25% deadlier.

    Engine oil still 0W20
    Transmission fluid still WS
    T-case fluid still LF unicorn ejaculate because it's basically the same T-case
    Vacuum pump replacement at 120k
    Lugnut torque 97 ft-lb for aluminum wheels, 154 ft-lb for steel wheels
    Shifting from 4H to 2H now requires to be at less than 62 mph. Was unlimited on 5th gen.

    The kick sensor diagram is interesting. Other Toyota models have had this for at least a decade. At least the picture is a 4Runner:

    Based on Tacoma convention, the hybrids will have a separate set of manuals.

    ^Tacoma non-OR/Pro trims have had vacuum pumps since 2016 with 100k replacement interval. At least Toyota improved it a little to 120k. :laugh: With the new 4-cyl being deeper longitudinally than the V6, access at the firewall will probably be tight.

    If you are driving on the highway AKA racetrack and pull into a rest stop you need to let the engine idle for one minute before running in to pee? o_O

    ^At the dealer, probably about as much as replacing the SAIS pump on 5th gens :stirthepot:

    That’s not a scheduled maintenance item though. I’d imagine that the 6th gen will have an air injection pump too.

    ^No, the T24 doesn't have an air injection pump. The newer engines burn clean enough not to need one. The 2GR in 2016-2023 Tacomas didn't have the air injection pump. Only older engines like the 1GR, 2TR, 1UR (4.6L V8) and 3UR (5.7L V8) need it.

    But yes the vacuum pump is scheduled maintenance, analogous in that regard to the timing belt on the 4.7L V8 and 3.4L V6.

    Funny enough, I was on a wait list for a GR Corolla and after that came out, I took my name off the list.

    On many interstates you need to go that fast to keep up with traffic on clear days. I don't want to be that douchebag that drives a GR in the right lane going 70 hoping to not have an engine fire.

    Its out there with denying warranty on Nissan GT-R for using built-in launch control or manual 911 denying warranty for hitting rev-limiter the regular way (not a money shift).

    At least (not yet) they are not denying warranty on 4Runner for driving off pavement. They probably going to start with 6thGen, once hybrid systems starts getting waterlogged.

    ^Hybrid systems have been the most reliable parts of the Tacoma and Tundra/Sequoia. For water crossings, worry about the electric parking brake first, then the high-current electric steering rack, then the electric radiator fan, then the same old front ADD actuator, then the same old transfer case actuator...

    I figured the era cooling off turbos by idling was a thing of the past. I guess not.


    I bought an 18 Highlander and was excited at finally buying a car that didn’t need a timing belt. Then I found out about the mileage-limited brake vaccuum
    Pump. And 60k spark plugs lol.

    Has anybody heard about what it costs to replace tye pump? Last I checked theHighlander was close to 1k for just the part.

    ^People on TW were twisting their brains into a pretzel regarding the idling requirement when the 2024 Tacoma manual came out. It isn't a consideration unless you stop immediately after highway speeds. It usually takes a minute or more between going at highway speeds and pulling next to the rest stop washroom. Hasn't been a problem with the quarter-million Tundras sold so far. (They have crank bearing issues and wastegate issues, but turbos haven't been coked up.)

    On the 3rd gen Tacoma, vacuum pump is accessed by unbolting the transmission mount and jacking up the transmission to tilt the engine forward. (In principle a common mechanic's trick on FWD transverse engined vehicles to get more working room.)

    Its also very interesting to see injector cleaning additive needs to be refilled every 5000miles for the island owners and not main land owners.
    Remind me about the Lexus IS injector failures due to carbon build up.

    ^Either the gasoline quality in Hawaii is worse (fewer detergents or whatever), or it's a racket with the distributor that runs all the dealerships on the islands. :laugh:

    At the rest areas I’ve been to it takes a lot less than a minute to park. Probably around 20-30 seconds to go from 70 on the off ramp to a parking spot.

    Why is that injector cleaner so expensive? I usually get a Lucas bottle for 4-5$ at Advance or Walmart.

    ^300% OEM markup then 40% dealer markup. Pretty standard across the industry.
