2024 ORP 4Runner jumping when I put it in 4WD and turn the wheel..

Hi everyone! I’m very excited to join this forum. I’m not very mechanically inclined but I love my new 4Runner. I previously owned a manual transmission 1993 DX truck which was my baby for years and now I have rejoined the toyota family! I bought a new 2024 so I’d have the last of the 5th gen. My question is when I put this truck into 4H and 4L and make a turn it makes this moan sound and almost bunny hops. Is that normal? My old DX never did this. Apologies if this question is basic or already well known.

 

Driveline bind because the front and rear axles are locked together so they cannot spin at different speeds when turning. This is why part time 4wd is not recommended to be used on high traction surfaces.

 

Welcome. You should only put the truck in 4WD on a loose surface, such as snow, mud, or sand. If you put it in 4WD on pavement and make turns, you can break the truck. At the very most, if you put it in 4WD on pavement for some reason, only go straight - no turns. And only briefly.

 

93 DX? Hmm, did you own a T-100 DX? I'm pretty sure that's the one my dad had. He drove that thing until it almost hit 400k.

-it could have been a T-100.. I don’t really remember besides DX. When I google it all the descriptions say 1993 Toyota Pickup Deluxe 4x4. I had the red one without the extended cab. I loved that truck. I sold it (and still regret it) to a mechanic buddy of my dad’s. It had 250k miles and still going strong.

@Missssssssss4x4 - if you'd purchased a Limited, we'd never have heard from you. They are always in 4wd, on and off pavement.

 

Yes! My boyfriend’s brother has a Limited. I see the benefit of both.

 

yes, this is due to the torsen differential /.
so the limited has 3 differentials/ front central and back in addition to the transfer case.

when putting the limited in 4HI it will put 50% torque to front and back and it will act exactly like the rest of the 4runners 4HI
