Hello everyone. I have a 2024 TRD ORP with 4600 miles. Several times now, I will get in the 4Runner and start it up, but the HVAC fan will not be on, even though the fan setting is on. If I turn it to high, the fan will kick in and then it is fine on lower speeds after that. It doesn't happen often, but enough now to make me think it is more than just a random glitch. I already know it is going to be very difficult to duplicate by the dealership unless there is a TSB or a known problem, so I wanted to check here to see if anyone else has had this happen?

    Do you have AUTO climate?

If your climate controls are set to AUTO, then the 4Runner will automatically cut fan speed until the HVAC system is either cold enough or hot enough to dispense properly temperatured air.

Nope. It has standard HVAC controls.

My 19 does this. Figured it wanted time before starting up.

Film what you're experiencing so you can show it to the dealer if you do take it in. I had to do that on a previous car in order for the dealer to believe there was a problem and them to actually try to reproduce and fix the issue.

That is wild that a 2024 ORP doesn't have auto HVAC.

The only other thing I can think of (doubtful from a 2024) is a blower motor issue, where only high fan speed can overcome the fans mechanical resistance, but once spinning can adjust to lower settings. This was an issue on other Toyota models and older 4Runners. Can't imagine a brand new 4Runner would develop that issue so quickly however.

Canada gets them in the Off-Road but they also don’t have a premium package.

I agree. It makes no sense that we don't get auto climate control on the ORP. I didn't realize that I'd miss it as much as I do since my other vehicle (which will be going on my son in a few months) has auto climate.

It does make sense that maybe there is something going on with the blower motor, and it needs a "jump start" to get it moving. I guess it is something that will eventually fail...outside of the warranty period.

I plan to mention it to the dealership when I take it in for its first service, but it happens so infrequently that they won't be able to reproduce it. I've had many new cars, and 95% of the time, if they can't reproduce it, they will do nothing. I've even had videos of issues on other cars and they say that unless it happens while at the dealership, they can't go by video.

try leaving it on high the next tiem you shut down and see if it goes right to high fan when the car is fired back up the next day. Assess it from there if it turns on right away

I’ve noticed that at times I have had the blower control knob clicked in between settings, no air blowing. Touch the knob and I can feel it click, fan back to working.

I’ve noticed this happening maybe five times over the past year.

I thought a head unit firmware update mentioned something like this but no change. Turning the fan speed knob (haven’t tried the others) kicks it back to the speed it should be at.

I’ll try to see if I could try something different next time I notice.
