    Agreed!
I think that thing looks hideous. And the back looks similar to the Camry (yuk!) from a few years ago. Sure glad I have what I have.

I don't like this one but I liked the other rendering he did quite a bit, actually.

Doesn't matter though because the 6th gen will look nothing like either of them.

If anything, the front end is gonna get longer, not shorter, to allow for a crumple zone. Like the 3rd gen Tacoma.

I think it looks weird on the Tacoma. On the double cab, the front end looks longer than the bed of the truck from some angles.

I won't worry too much about what some random guy thinks the 6th gen will look like. I'm curious to see which way they'll go with it. I hope it's nice, but not so nice that it makes me want to trade mine in.

    Glad I got a '19! :D

I think Japanese designers love tiny front ends.

Part of the reason is because the Japanese are in love with the styling of the Astro van, that’s part of the reason the xB looked the way it did.

Those images (especially the first one) seem distorted. If it looks anything like the image below I think it would be perfect. Evolutionary, still recognizable as a 4R, and retaining great features like a useful boxy shape and modest windshield rake.

Blacked out grill and rear emblem. More on the way!
Sure looks like the next gen LC to me.

    https://global.toyota/en/newsroom/toyota/35323595.html

That said, I like to design overall. There's no way the Runner is gonna have such a short hood from grille to windshield. Also, the black roof is *usually* because of a panoramic sunroof

Hopefully they don’t make it look like a chick SUV (no offense to the ladies here). But take the new Blazer or Explorer or Escape that does not look like a manly ride.

Gosh this 4 cylinder stuff scares me. What is the towing capacity going to be just a bike rack?

Even the new Bronco only tows 3,500lbs? Come on Ford want the hell is that.

The turbo 4 in the Ford Ranger and Bronco makes more torque and at lower RPM's than our old 4.0 V6. I'm sure the towing capacity will remain the same.

I think the Ranger tows 7,500lbs they say but sort of wanted a SUV about 12 or 15 inches shorter in the garage. The Bronco must be too small and the frame too small for the weight. It does not look tow worthy due to being short to me anyway.

I wish I would have known about 4R when they made the V8s. Those things must have been a blast to drive. I am only in my 40s and I fee like I am my Dad now and old school. Not a fan of new tech

I had an '03 with the 4.7 V8. It had excellent torque, for sure. These new turbo 4 cylinders might have just as much torque as the V8 did. That plus better MPG's seems like a win/win in my book.

I understand the preference of old proven technology. But, it's going to change no matter how much people complain. We might as well try to stay optimistic.

I like this rendering much better. I hope it looks like this but not holding my breath.

Let's not forget the 4Runner had a turbo at one time with the 22R-TE. It was known to be very reliable.

It is definitely the most believable render I've seen, though saying its rendered by an engineer doesn't mean much unless that engineer is currently at Toyota. On the 2nd render the line across the hatch like it has a split tailgate is unbelievable from a design perspective. It wont have a drop down tailgate (I realize the new LC300 is a lift up hatch too), nobody expects it to have a fold down tailgate because it hasn't been seen on a 4runner since 1995, so putting a styling que mimicking a drop down tailgate makes 0 sense. The back glass has to roll down, so the render cant have curved glass either.

The engine is what it is. A V8 isn't happening. A NA engine seems unlikely unless Toyota debuts a new engine on the 4runner that we haven't seen. If the 4runner gets the V6 from the Tacoma everyone is going to complain about acceleration.

It does not matter whatsoever what it looks like. Function and reliability are what rates a vehicle for customers like myself who are not looking to waste money.

They’ll be complaining about a lot more than acceleration if it gets the Tacoma engine.

I’m not sure if he’s right or wrong, but it’s not a random guy. It’s a former Toyota engineer that also predicted what the Tundra would look like pretty accurately and has some sources it appears. Still, I get what you’re saying.

I dunno - think it looks kinda knarley.... I have yet to develop a real love affair for the 5th gen design - I always liked the old square body looks of earlier 4runners.

I sure hope it ends up closer to the picture in post #16. The cartoon looking thing in the OP is ugly as fuck, IMO.

I could live with the looks of the post Gumpus made(post 16), not bad, have to see one up close before hand though. Yesterday we pulled along side a Bronco in a parking lot, I'm not sure what trim level it was, but, it looked small compared to our 4Runner, which is smaller than the Tacoma we had. Keep close to the size the 4Runner is now, as far as towing, a tow vehicle that's smaller than what you're towing.... is a recipe for disaster! Not that we tow alot, just sayin'.

For those of you that are into the looks you might consider that vehicles in a picture are a whole lot different than in person. Both the Bronco and the Pan America Harley are just flat out nauseating in pictures. But boy they are really sharp looking when you see them in a parking lot or on the road up close.

In fact I was considering the Bronco along with a Wrangler when looking for a true 4x4. They are the only other 2 four wheel drives with a low range sold in the US that are body on frame design (other than a pickup).

Problem with both Chrysler/fiat and Fords is reliability. I am not meaning to offend those of you who own them but the American "Big Three" manufacturers cannot compare to reliability of Toyota, Honda, Yamaha.
