Don't know if this is the right place to ask this but I was curious about what y'all think this would cost for a repair? I was involved in an accident this morning and my baby suffered some serious damage from it. I already have a claim open with the other drivers insurance company and I am trying to get it looked at at a Toyota dealership later today, but I've been racking my brain on if this is something that's gonna cost me or what. Any information would be much appreciated.

If you have insurance I wouldn’t worry about it, especially if you have a lien on the vehicle because the lien holder will require it to be repaired back to 100% functionality.

My guess is $3,000-$4,000 assuming there's not anything hidden behind there (a big assumption).

Sorry that happened on your brand new car, I have a silver '22 as well that unfortunately is waiting on an entire new frame (long story). Not fun.

Don't worry about cost if it is going through insurance. If the other driver was at fault, you are in the clear and will not have to pay your deductible. Additionally, you should file a DIMINISHED VALUE CLAIM against their insurance. Read up on it, worth doing and will net you at least an additional $1000 to put in your pocket given the car is so new. Also, and this only works if the other driver was at fault, their insurance company will have to pay you a per diem for a rental car. It does not matter if you have "rental car coverage" on your policy since it was the other driver's fault, and best yet, you don't physically need to rent a car, you can pocket the cash if you wish. (This works in CA, research your state but it is likely the same).

If you were at fault, you will have to pay your deductible, but that is it. You'll lose the option for diminished value and only get the car rental bonus if you have coverage on your policy.

Also, in most states, it is your right to have the vehicle repaired wherever you wish. I would pick the most high end, expensive and best rated shop in your area. It is on insurance to duke it out with them over labor costs, not on you.

Sorry this happened, it doesn't look terribly bad, just some body work but they will have to get in there to make sure everything is repaired correctly.

Not to derail the thread, but I'd like to hear that story!

Well, I'll be posting a "learn from me" post when it is all fixed and done. But, the gist is my front left tire caught an inanimate object as it skimmed by (think huge curb), just so, that it took the wheel out of my hands and the front left of the truck just plowed into the object at around 5-7mph. It really was a 1 in a million, stars aligned situation. That said, it happened remotely 800 miles from home. The 4R spent 2 months in UT & finally at a CO Toyota dealer. They were morons and just threw some suspension parts at it. I flew out to pick it up early August and it was still not right (horrible alignment, rubbing fender liner etc...). Got it home to CA, multiple assessments including a laser scan of the frame, and it is a bent frame in multiple locations (primarily front shock mounts, cross members etc.)

I finally got insurance to approve the full frame replacement at the Toyota dealer (vs a body shop with cheaper labor rates). A new frame will take about 3 weeks and install will be a couple weeks. The damn thing has been in my possession only 2/3 of the time I've owned it :(

What I've learned from my experience is that frames, even with body on frame cars like 4R's, are not quite as strong as they were in my head. They are designed to absorb impact, after all.

Dang! Id have never thought you'd get that kind of damage from a relatively low speed curb hit! How much is that setting the insurance company back?

Well, about $5k for the CO dealer (UCA & LCA, steering rack, power steering pump etc), $1800 for towing, and about $16k for the frame. Unfortunately for me I keep a $2500 deductible (so as to keep monthly down), had to fly out to get it, hotel etc., and spent about 20 hours on the phone thus far planning towing logistics, insurance stuff etc.. Not a very fun situation all around, but ironically I feel good about it now as it is on the brink of finally being done. The incident happened mid June.

Fun fact, there is already a "Damage Reported" on the Carfax. No details, that is all it says. I confirmed in advance that my insurance company, nor the CO dealer, nor the body shop that did the frame scan report to Carfax. 90% of the time, accidents or damage show up on Carfax because there was a police report. My adjuster is awesome and he told me one of the most terrifying pieces of info::::: Carfax is so weasily that they can pull from databases where a shop, or even a person, uses a VIN to search for collision related parts (i.e. suspension & steering rack components) in some "systems". He told me of a story where his friend was searching for such items for his car, a car which had never been in any sort of accident or damage, and a "Damage Reported" showed up on the carfax. Just crazy. You can dispute it with Carfax, and they are pretty good about taking it off if they discover they don't have supporting data.

Sorry for the thread jack OP, they made me do it. Remember, pursue that diminished value and rental car reimbursement !

    Wow crazy story!

That would have stressed me out.

A 5-7 mpg collision took out the frame. I guess you’re right, our 4Runners are not as bullet proof as we thought.

Just my personal opinion, but I'd never have a dealer (of any brand) do my body work. There are generally far better private shops out there. And remember, you have the right to have any shop you want do the repairs.

I agree 100%. Dealers will only have body shops that they are affiliated with, on site or not, and most will suck. Find the most expensive, best reviewed, high end body shop you can find. Almost to the point they don't want to even work on your 4R because they typically do Germans, Rolls Royce etc... yet have to because it is your choice.

As for the guess on cost, I'm guessing around $6k for a really good shop. Bumper, headlight, quarter panel at least in parts, probably a few broken plastic brackets on the inside etc.. Shouldn't be too intense of a repair though, so that is good for ya !
