Has anyone installed LED DRL bulbs in their 22 yet? What are you using? The DRL is the only Halogen bulb on this truck and I want to swap it.

I see. Looks like the harness he created is required? Or I could just order the lower-powered LEDs from Diode Dynamics and call it plug and play with no flickering issues?

Plug and play LED bulbs could work if they were designed to function down to 6 volts. I haven’t seen any specified to do that. That Auxbeam spec is 12-24 volts. It may work dimly at 6 V until it doesn’t.

I’d make the harness change to power the bulbs properly, don’t kluge in cheap bulbs and hope they work.

I’m using the cheap plug-n-play bulbs from Amazon lol. Only had them a few days but no major issues yet. They are not as bright as I hoped but I’m not confident or knowledgeable enough to mess with the wiring, etc to go the other route. Super mild flickering, barely noticeable.

Don’t. Seriously. Read about it. No led in halogen housing. It’s stupid and it doesn’t work.

The aux beams mentioned will work. I have them in my ‘21 PRO without issue. Going to full 12v with an LED bulb will make the bulb act like a high beam and bother people in front of you. Been there done that.

This is DRL only so no issue as dim accent lighting more or less. This bulb no longer serves as DRL and hi beam as on earlier model years. The lo and hi beam functions are now in the OEM LED bulb on ‘22, as well as ‘21 PRO and Limited models.

The Diode Dynamics bulb mentioned in the links provided is especially designed with a relatively low lumen output. Input voltage is 9-16 volts. Ideal for DRLs. From their website:
“Brightness. At 250 lumens, the HP48 is a cosmetic upgrade only and will provide the same light output as your factory bulb.”
    https://www.diodedynamics.com/9005-hp48-led-bulbs.html

It’s good that the Auxbeams are working for you but according to the specs they provide you’re operating them below their specified input voltage. That’s why probably why you detect some flicker. Plus, they are wired in series and if one fails open they both go out. No big deal as a DRL but something to be aware about.

Keep us posted on how well they work over time and temperature extremes. (And if you can detect any AM radio interference).

I have Xenon Depot's DRL/High Beam set up. Works great. Easy install.

The voltage to the bulbs on ‘22 pro is only 6 volts as the bulbs are used for DRL only and are wired in series. My guess is the 6 volts is too low for the hp48 to turn on. The 6 volts is also why any bulb used will be dim.

These bulbs are only for models where the 9005 bulb is used for both DRL and HI beam. I have them on my ‘14 Limited and they work well. Do not use them on later models where the 9005 bulb is DRL only. These models are ‘21 Limited and Pro and all ‘22 models.

So I just got my TRD ORP today and yeah these halogen drls need to go. But for your guys that did the amber light, I understand that bulb doubles as high beams, correct? So I'm just assuming you don't use them or are ok with amber high beams??

Edit: Nevermind, i see the 22's have the high beams built into the projector

What year? 21 and below have dual function DRL and high beams as the same bulb. 22 forward, they are 6V DRL only.

If yours are high beams, I fully recommend upgrading with halogen only bulbs. The spiciest upgrade is the new Osram/Sylvania 9011 HIR bulb, as detailed in this thread here:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ctor-headlights.589465/page-263#post-26343537

While LED bulbs look "cool", they will not be nearly as performant in halogen reflectors.

This changes the bulbs from series to parallel and thus changes the voltage from 6v to full 12v to each bulbs. Now the bulbs will be at full brightness when they are on and no different in brightness than if they were hi beam. As a result, this will be uncomfortable for people driving in front of you even during the day. Been there done that when I put LED’s in my ‘14 for the DRL/HI beam bulbs and they ended up full brightness in DRL mode. I was told by friends driving in front of me they were too bright. And a parent with a 4Runner at my kids school has done the same thing and yes 9005 LED bulbs at full brightness during the day are not fun to be in front of or look at head on.

This is true in the case of most "normal" (read: terrible) halogen replacement bulbs, but these bulbs from Diode Dynamics are merely decorative. You can see that they are low-powered, passively cooled, and with LED chips nowhere near the focal point of the reflector.

"At 250 lumens, the HP48 is a cosmetic upgrade only."

A stock halogen 9005 bulb has 1700 lumens and a proper focal point. The focus will be completely washed out on these, reducing their brightness even further. I think they'll be just fine.

I was unaware of the low output of the HP48. Nice.

LEDS in DRL only sockets ... will either flicker, have only one come on or both will not work at all (serially connected)
    Been there.

LEDS sellers may send you a decoder to use as experiment. It's a 50|50 chance

Yes, that's why people have developed a workaround. It's detailed in the post here.

Attaching the results of the aux beam leds linked above. The leds flicker a little, but isn't noticeable past 5ft away. Lot cheaper than other options. Keep oem ones in vehicle just in case.

On the topic of this, let me ask a question, since I’m not very electrically inclined. What if I used the harness to convert the DRL system to 12 volt, and used the HP 48 bulbs. Would there also be some way I could tap into that line for raptor lights too? My reason for this, is because it would be cool to run the raptor lights off of the DRL switch on the signal stalk, and have the ability to turn them off. It would also be cool that they wouldn’t cut on when I start the car until I take the parking brake off.

Yes. You could tap either side at that point. Could make a second harness for the driver’s side that gets you ground and positive since you’d be getting two extensions anyway

Hmm! That would be cool, but I just thought of something. That means the raptor lights would cut off when the headlights are on. Not a big deal I guess.

Use a relay. Pin 87a to DRL positive. Pin 87 to fused battery positive. Pin 30 to raptor lights positive. Pin 85 to low beam positive. Pin 86 to ground. Raptor lights would be on whenever DRL or lows are on
