2021 Ordering?

Hey guys, first time posting here!

I have never purchased a Toyota before, but the 4runner has really caught my attention and I have decided it will be my next vehicle (currently drive a 2012 Jeep Jk)

Anyway, I want a TRD pro, but there are none in stock in the color I want within a 1000 mile radius of me! So my next question to the sales guy was when do the 2021 orders start... his reply was that Toyota doesn't take orders on "limited edition" vehicles. Is this true? Is Toyota the only auto manufacturer that doesnt accept orders???

 

As far as I know you can order it, as in they allocate one that meets your specs and you pay for it and they ship it to you. Toyota doesn’t build it to your exact spec though like other manufacturers where you can mix and match certain options, what you get is what you get with whatever trim package you decide to go with.

 

Sure, that makes sense. So the only "options" I want are TRD pro and specific color. I dont understand why 3 local dealerships just laughed when I asked about ordering!

Exactly. I would go with a 3rd party like Costco if you have one but you will have to wait until the 21's come out which will probably be in September or October. I just checked Cargurus and you are correct, there are very few Pro's out there nationwide.

 

My local dealer said they would order me an AG Pro, that was in March. I think they are just hoping they get one. In the mean time, I located what I wanted a few states away, made the deal over the phone and via text message, then it was delivered to my house. I'm not 100 percent sure, but, I think all 4 Runners are 50 state emissions compliant, so, any 4 Runner can be registered in any state. Only matters if you live in CA or another commie state.

Also, as stated above, dealers will say anything to get you to buy whatever is on their lot.

 

Thats what I did. Dealers in CA want huge markups for the PRO and the nearest one I found was 500 mi away in NV. Bought the truck for MSRP (which is as good as youll get for a PRO) by text and for $600 got it delivered to my front door. 4Runners are CA compliant which means they are compliant anywhere lol. You can even go pick it up, Airline tickets are CHEAP right now, plus youd be doing my industry a solid.

 

Tell him you don't want a Limited. You want a PRO

 

I know in my area you can order a Pro. All you can do is see if the dealer has one allocated to them and if no one has there name on it you can put a deposit on it. I bought my 17 and my 20 both from the same dealer. I don’t plan on giving up my AG for 2021.

 

If you're trying to order the limited edition color for this year, they might be done producing them. They probably make a certain amount and that's it. I could be wrong, though..



If there are still some available at other dealerships in the color you want, then the dealer is probably just being a Dick. Or maybe other dealers don't like to lose their profit by shipping a PRO to another dealer.

 

Its frustrating. The 5the gen TRD pro has been out for what, 6 years now? I think its bogus that dealerships play these games. Im not just kicking tires, I am going to buy. I thought the car industry was struggling right now with the Covid pandemic and all.... apparently not if they are insisting on playing these games.

Can any of you guys recommend a dealership to work with? I live in Washington state, so maybe something close to the west coast?

I ordered my 2020 TRD Pro as there were none available in the color / options I wanted. Ordered on 11 November 2019, it arrived at dealership 22 January 2020. Yes, that long.

I got mine from Fowler Toyota in Norman Oklahoma, paid list plus $1500 shipping to my door which was about 1200 miles. They were pretty serious after I paid a refundable "good faith" deposit then they sent a mobile notary to meet me at work. Signed papers then I sent a check and in three or four days it showed up at my house on a car carrier. It was unloaded in LA and reloaded on a smaller trailer for delivery since I'm in a small town.

Fowler did everything they said they would do. If I were going to complain, my only complaint would be that the 4 Runner showed up dirty after all those miles on a trailer.

The hardest part was finding what I wanted. A Google search did not really work nor did Toyota.com. I did find a 4 Runner I wanted in LA but the dealer wanted 10K over list and would say anything to get me in for a test drive...even after I asked them to loose my number and never call again, they still call.

the dealer I got my pro from in Elko nevada was great! They said they sell and ship up to washington all the time same as CA. It’s the only toyota dealer in Elko if you google it.

Oh and I found mine through a simple Cars.com search which was surprising. caveat to that though, a few dealers I called on from the search clearly used the cars.com to list vehicles they didnt have to get me to call and try to get me interested in something else.

 

I love my 4runner......but HATE the toyota dealers. They are all scumbags imo

 

Definitely not unique to Toyota! Pretty much all car dealerships are scum... especially on the coasts. I always end up buying from some remote midwest dealership. at least thats been my experience!

 

Toyota is not struggling at all with Covid. My dealer is down to 1 4Runner and 2 Tacos on their lot. They are selling vehicles like hotcakes.

I think lots of folks are thinking - Hey you only live once!

 

Sales are not what they were before COVID. The issue with low inventory on lots is that Toyota shut down production (all automakers did) for weeks and they're just getting back to running full again.
@OP, there's only one Pro around me in Michigan (Army Green @ $51k) and even if you wanted to ship *that* far I wouldn't recommend this dealership.

 

Made the "order" back in October and have been obsessively tracking my Pro from Japan! Figured out the ship it was on based on the ETA to port from the dealership!

Has anyone recently bought a TRD pro and figured out how long it took to get to the dealership from the port?

My truck arrived in Portland Or on 12/1/20 and my last update from the dealership was that it was in "Freight status" on 12/4/20

my salesman said after it hits Freight status they can no longer track it and have no set ETA... Im in North Idaho anyone care to guess how long until she gets here!? The wait is killing me now that I know its so close!

I worked with Kendall Toyota in Eugene and they were great - no BS, good faith deal and very flexible.

 

It looks like I'm on the same timeline as you. I ordered a 2021 Pro in early October, and it was scheduled to arrive at the port on 12/3. The dealership told me they usually receive them around two weeks after they arrive in the US, which would put my delivery at 12/17 at the earliest. Mine has apparently arrived at the port, but dealership is telling me I probably won't have it this week yet, which will make it longer than two weeks. I'm not in any particular rush, but I'm looking forward to it, and, like you, am curious about the timing.
