Hey everyone… my mechanic says I will need new tires soon so need to replace the factory tires. Would like to get something rugged that is good in rain/snow. Anyone have any suggestions that won’t break the bank??
    TIA
    Paula

You probably want some AT tires. I have BFG ko3’s on my 4runner and like them a lot but they were $1300 for 4 mounted. IOW not cheap. Less pricy AT tires from cooper, general, and goodyear get good reviews.

If you are staying with 245/60R20 and living in a state that needs 3peak mountain snow flake rated tires, you don't seem to have much options.

To my eyes Toyo Open County AT3 seems to be the best option.

Not aggressive as the Toyo but BFG Trail Terrain or Falken Wildpeak trail seem to be your next best option.

Define "rugged", but that said I'd go find what Michelin Defender LTX M/S or similar you can find in your size.

TA Trail Terrain, recently installed on a Frontier crewcab, thinking I like them enough to replace oem tires on the 24 Limited.

It’s crazy that people cannot use the search button or just pick one on tirerack.com.

95% will tell you all terrain tires. If you drive your 4Runner mostly on paved roads, highway, etc. a good road tire will last, feel and perform much better on road than an off road tire. Michelin Defenders are at the top for road tires. And IMO change your perspective on costs. Good tires are not something to skimp on.

Paula where are you located? I have some brand new Limited 4Runner take-offs with only a few miles on them i would let go for pretty cheap, half what a new set of tires will cost you. I have all 5 covered up. I am in Mississippi but can strap them to a pallet if you are really interested in getting them and me shipping them.
If you want a more rugged tire, i personally prefer the General Grabber AT/X, in my opinion it is the best all terrain tire, that does great in snow, sleet, rain, and heat.

And, it's also a commentary on what the state of the world is. People need acceptance, and thereby diminishing the ability to make decisions on their own.

Check the tires before you listen to your mechanic. Maybe he wants to sell you a new set.

I would have some patience with new joiners. Give time to learn about search and other things.

Back in the day I too thought rouged looking tires are do it all tire. It took time to know about different features. Especially here in CO where we get snow the tires without 3 peak snow flake rating the tires would become a hockey puck when temperature drops.

Continental makes a nice H/T tire. Also Michelin defender M/S is a great tire. I have them on an AWD LX. With the limited’s awd system, I would get H/T all season unless you’re planning to off-road your 4R. New all seasons with a good AWD vehicle will handle a lot of jersey’s weather. Nice of another forum member to offer you take offs. That’s a good option too.
