Hey! I’m currently looking into swapping my head unit in my 2015 4Runner Limited to the new 2020 head unit. I didn’t know if anyone has done this or if it’s even possible?

Which one are you interested in? The $4200 one or the $5700 one?

I actually have a buddy that’s willing to give me the head unit for 200 bucks, but didn’t wanna waste 200 bucks if it didn’t work. If it helps, I believe it is from a 2020 TRD Pro.

It would literally take you 30 minutes or less to pull the original head unit out, attempt to hook up the newer one, and then put the original stock head unit back in place once you realize the majority of the connections are different. Your buddy won't let you try that before you buy it? For the sake of I am going to tell you it won't work, but I am also going to tell you there's no harm in exploring and learning something for yourself. At the very least you learn how easy it is to remove the head unit. It will come in handy later. The 4Runner is extremely easy to work on, take apart, and put back together. My advice is to grab some tools and just start taking random shit apart and fill your driveway up with parts. Then when you can't figure out where all the stuff goes back, just start another thread on here. Take pictures though. Those are helpful.

My buddy is a state over atm, and I am aware that the connections didn’t line up, that’s why I came here to ask if others who are more knowledgeable with electrical components had found a way to make it compatible. Thank you for your input, though!
