2014 4Runner

Hi all,

I’m currently looking at a 2014 4Runner for 20k. It has 160,000 miles on it. I am new to the 4Runner community so I wanted to know if that price is right for that mileage. I’m open to any and all tips and suggestions!

Factors include...

- Title status
- Trim, features, mods
- Condition, frame rust, history

What shape is it in cosmetically interior, exterior, paint?
Any frame rust?

Check for frame rust.

 

That amount of mileage for that year is in line for the asking price. If you look on AutoTrader.com you'll find that a lot of vehicles around that year/mileage are asking the same. The differences in prices are usually based on the:

1) Condition of the exterior/interior/frame. Body panels, paint, etc..
2) Features/Mod/Accessories.
3) Region - SUV's/Trucks fetch less money in certain parts of the country.
4) Condition of the wheels & tires.
5) Color or trim level. Basic white or lower end trim levels get less, usually.
6) Accident history.


Ask the dealer for as many pictures as possible. Examine it closely. Ask to see all service records. When was the last major service?

 

In a nutshell, ask for oil change records.
If that works out, look for rust.
If no rust, buy it if it has everything you need.
Be prepared to spend money on replacing wear and tear parts.
If no oil change record , skip. If alot of rust, skip.

 

As a point of reference, KBB trade-in/private party for a ‘14 SR5 4x4 in “good” condition w 160k is about $15k. Higher trims, options go up in price from there.

Since there are plenty of choices out on the preowned market, accept no more than minor oxidation on the weld seams underneath, and walk if there’s any gaps in service, accidents, or more than a couple owners. Good luck.
