    Hey everyone,

I am having an issue with my 2013 4Runner - after attempting to install a CarLink LTE module to an existing aftermarket remote starter (X-Start, from Amazon), my vehicle’s engine now won’t start. The X-Starter module has been installed since 2019 without issues, so I’m almost certain that this whole can of worms was opened by something that I did.

For context, I’m still able to start vehicle’s accessories (lights, radio, keyless entry, etc all work), but when I depress the brake pedal and attempt to start the engine via push button start, the starter doesn’t even crank. Depressing the brake DOES turn the light green on the start button, which I believe suggested that the safety switch is good.

Here’s a list of things I’ve tried to resolve the issue

    1. Remove the aftermarket remote starter

    2. Removed power to my vehicle for an hour… this was an attempt to reset my ECU.

    3. Checked voltage on my battery - it was reading 11.4v, so I replaced it with a new battery.

    4. Confirmed that the internal fuse box has power, and that the AM1, IG, and IGN fuses are not blown and are receiving power (typically around 11.7 volts). Please note that I confirmed this after replacing my battery.

    5. Out of sheer desperation, I bought an ODBII scanner (Blue Driver) in hopes that the Toyota gods would smile upon me with an answer. I received a few codes, but one stood out as related - ‘B126A’ with a description of “Remote Engine Starter ECU Communication Stop”. I tried to clear the code and restart my vehicle, but this seemed to have no impact. When I rescanned my 4Runner, the same error popped back up.

I am hitting my breaking point… I’m about to pony up and just have someone tow it to a mechanic. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
