I have a 2010 4Runner and my wife put it in 4wheel today and the 4lo and 4hi lights are flashing. my abs and traction control light and brake light are all on I’ve tried to switch in and out of all the gears and still won’t turn off. It goes into neutral and Still drives but the light won’t turn off

I remember in my old 2011 4runner that something similar happened. I had to use a paper clip and simultaneously push both ends of the clip into the OBD2 connector and it solved my issue. I can’t remember the exact method I did but maybe someone can chime in, apparently it’s pretty common.

He's referring to the zero point calibration. YouTube it for directions. I thought that was only a 4th Gen thing. I think you have an actuator issue since it started when you tried to engage 4wd.

Thank you for clearing that up. And is there a way to test the actuator?

ABS sensor could be bad. I had a similar issue and it was the drivers side front ABS sensor

OP, do you have KDSS? I remember that on KDSS equipped 4runners sometimes the hydraulic part in the sway bar system would go bad and cause those lights to go off as well. I’m leaning towards the calibration needing to be reset though, it happened on mine out of nowhere too and it was stock.

If you have the shifter version then probably your ADD is stuck. It should be the same mechanism as previous 4runner.

I can still shift in and out of 4hi and 4lo just took it to a shop and was told it probably a transmission problem and there codes thrown.

What shop? The dealer? If not take it to the dealer. Still think it's an ABS sensor.

Why don’t you try doing the calibration reset first? It’s a money free troubleshoot.

Same lights I had flashing when I broke my ABS sensor during my suspension installation. I bet one of them simply failed. My ODBII reader didn't show any codes either. Replaced the front right and everything went back to normal.

Just a update I took it in and got the speed sensor fix and it cleared the lights ☺️ So the speed sensor can cause the 4wheel light to flash
