Hi everyone. Thinking of buying my first Toyota. My wife and I test drove a 2009 Toyota 4 runner sr5 sport package today with 157,000 miles. Frame looked pretty clean. Brake dust shields are about rusted away but the rest of the vehicle looked decent as far as rust. White paint on passenger doors is faded as far as clear coat. Idles and drives good. Hooked my scanner up to it and found no codes. Had 2 stone chips in the wind shield. Small dealer said he would come down to 11594 out the door. Is that too high?

That seems a bit high for the condition. I did a general search on Auto Trader nationwide for 2009's and found a few for $12k with 180k + miles, but they exterior/interior looked great. If you can, expand your search area. You may find a better deal.

Thanks. I offered him 10,500 out the door but he refused.. with the faded paint and needing to do new dust shields not wanting to go higher.

Here's a negotiating tip you may (or may not) want to try: Have your wife go see the guy in person, and offer $9800 for the truck. The man will immediately refuse BUT your wife will reply "Oh, you'll accept it or I'll tell your wife about the affair we've been having for the last three months."

Make sure she talks very loud and causes a minor scene. Bonus points if she wears something provocative. Does she own anything with an animal print? Have her wear that. Mistresses usually wear a leopard print. He'll cave.

When you and the wifey are driving the 4Runner home, make sure you thank me while high fiving one another.

He now came down to 11000 out the door. I ran a car fax on it. I called the dealer that serviced it and they had to replace the oil control valve on it. Should I stay away from the vehicle? I still am not going to go to 11,000 but could it give me engine issues down the road. It ran great when we test drove it. It's too far from my mechanic or I would have them look at it
