I am new to this group but not a mechanic beyond really basic stuff.

We've been told by Toyota that it's time to replace the shocks/struts and got a quote totaling $2710 yesterday. We have the X-REAS system but the quote doesn't include any work on it; just R & R the shocks and struts. I also got a quote from Les Schwab to just replace with non X-REAS parts totaling $985.

Any thoughts on the X-REAS and if it's worth keeping it?

Or, has anyone abandoned the X-REAS and replaced the shocks and struts? How did it go? Anything we should watch out for?

My son is good with cars and will help if it's a reasonable do-it-yourself project. Any input is appreciated.

If you are fixing shocks highly suggest to fix all? Very likely the other 2 will go bad very shortly.

On my 5th Gen 4runner Limited I have swapped XREAS to Ironman FCP and they are not comfy as XREAS on pavement. I regret that since my Limited is city only vehicle.

I have used very expensive shocks on another 4runner and still not comfy as XREAS. Also the high end shocks have a shorter service interval and very likely to have shorter life than XREAS.

Welcome. That seems steep to me. I've seen a few videos on xreas on the tube of you. Maybe Advanced DIY job if tackling or yourself. From the videos I've seen it's a mechanical system so can be done or removed.
