Hello everyone. New here. Had a lot of success so far with a couple of issues on a 2000 Limited 4WD I just bout for my sons first car. Old key fob is dead with new battery. Cannot get this thing to enter into fob programming mode using the 5 double lock cycle method time after time after time. Bought new fobs on Amazon, installed ALL new lock actuators, including rear door. All locks cycle and function as they should. Would try the door key option, but the LF lock cylinder has a broken tab and will only unlock, not lock. Any quick answers out there. Door lock module? Keyless receiver module? Looking for any help I can get. Great first car. Just want everything to work for him. Thanks

What fob do you have (number of buttons, FCC number)? What security system if any do you have? What programming instructions did you try to follow?

I bought virtually the same 3 button fobs (lock/unlock/rear window). Have seen discussions on the couple of different OE security systems, but don’t know how to tell which one I have. It’s not aftermarket. Everything on the vehicle is original.

I tried the key in key out/ cycle lock button 5 times twice (close/open door in between cycles), then key on/off, pull key out. It just never cycles the locks three times indicating programming mode.

    Canada Part No: NA

    Programming Notes:

Obtain all remote transmitters for this vehicle.

    Step-by-Step Programming Instructions:

1 Start with key out of the ignition, open and unlock drivers door and be sure all other doors and trunk are closed.

2 Insert key into ignition (Do not turn) and pull it out.

3 Perform these steps within 40 seconds.
    A. Using the power door lock rocker switch on drivers door perform 5 lock/unlock cycles starting with lock. Use an even pace and try to go about one cycle per second. (1 cycle = 1 lock and 1 unlock.).

4 Close, then open drivers door.

5 Perform these steps within 40 seconds.
    A. Using the power door lock rocker switch on drivers door perform 5 lock/unlock cycles starting with lock. Use an even pace and try to go about one cycle per second. (1 cycle = 1 lock and 1 unlock.)
    B. Insert the key in the ignition cylinder.
    C. Turn the ignition to ON (Just shy of starting car, Do NOT Start) then back to OFF.
    D. Turn the ignition to ON (Just shy of starting car, Do NOT Start)) then back to OFF.
    E. Remove the key from the ignition.

6 Within 3 seconds the power door locks should cycle automatically indicating successful entry into programming mode. Return to step 1 if the locks do not cycle at this point, if they do cycle then continue to step 7.

7 Perform these steps within 40 seconds.
    A. Press the lock and unlock buttons on the remote simultaneously for 1 second.
    B. Immediately after letting go of the lock and unlock buttons, Press the lock button by itself and hold for 2 seconds. Within 3 seconds the door locks should cycle once indicating successful programming. If the door locks don’t cycle or cycle twice, repeat steps A and B, your remote has not been accepted.
    C. Repeat steps A and B in step 7 for each new transmitter.

8 Close drivers door. Test all remotes. Programming is complete

Are you sure you did step 5 correctly? You have to do the Key to ON twice before pulling it out.

I have used this guide several times and literally have it saved on my phone so I know it works.

If it doesn't work, then I'd head to a locksmith who can do it via the OBD2.

This is definitely the way I’ve been using. It just doesn’t cycle the locks indicating that it’s entered programming mode. Tried doing the process both slow and fast. Fails to enter every time.
