I'd like to use a 1up bike rack on my 5th gen, but the receiver tube is fairly short compared to my pickup.

Does the 1up rack (2" square tube) fit and engage the pin on the factory 4runner receiver hitch?

I can cut some off the bike rack tongue but I don't know if that is possible with the locking mechanism.

    Thanks in advance.

I've had no clearance issues with the 1up rack on my 4R and the pin engages no problem.

I have a 1up (forget which model, it is the black new style for 2 bikes) and it fits fine.

Thank for the replies. Followup question: If you tilt the 1up down, can you open the liftgate with a bike on the rack closest to the 4runner?

I was able to tilt the rack down and open the hatch, but not sure which spot I had the bike at the time when I did this. When I only carry 1 bike I always have it closest to the hatch, so I am guessing that is where the bike was when I did this. I can say that when two bikes are on the rack, it is awkward and heavy to tilt it down and lift it back up. Unless you have some very light bikes attached. Mine are full suspension mountain bikes.
Currently at work but if I get home early enough I will try to get the rack installed and take some pics.

The bikes I ride the most are both carbon so they're not overly heavy. Photos would be great to see, thanks for offering. I'm looking at the heavy duty double rack. I usually bring just one bike, but there are times when a cycling friend is up for the weekend and being able to carry 2 bikes is a real plus. Those racks sure aren't cheap but I've seen several at events and the quality is very good.

    Thanks in advance.

Quality is beyond good. All metal is a plus. I have an older Yakima hanging style rack that served me well and I still use it often when I take my full from bike out using the car and not the 4Runner. Still works perfect and no problems with it at all, but the plastic pieces have faded a bit. I did plenty research for racks and glad I went with 1up. (Just looked up what I have, it is the equip'd) When shopping at the time the heavy duty had some strap that would secure the rack to the hitch and you couldn't use a locking hitch pin. I think they have updated that and now all the racks have ability for pins to be used. Also the equip'd had the handle to release the rack all the way to the back of the rack, the others you had to reach under and in to release it to tilt. They sold extensions to fix this, but was just more money to spend.

1up fits fine, I have two. A 2” single rack (primary use) and a 1.25” double that works on my wife’s Outback as well as my truck with the provided adaptor. The adjustable ball in the rack (that you tighten to snug up) does a great job. Both are the heavy duty version, they are overbuilt for sure. Hit me up if you needed a specific picture and I can put mine back on.

Thank you for the photos. I ordered a 2 bike heavy duty (2") rack in black. It certainly wasn't cheap, but if it lasts as long as my 4runner I'll be happy.

The arms have some replaceable parts depending on how often you open them up and tighten them down, its an extremely well designed rack. Hopefully you also ordered the add-on rack mounted bottle opener....just saying...comes in handy after some rides.

Order the locks also so they are all keyed the same.

If you have questions, as I did before I purchased the 1Up, contact their customer service. I found the folks at 1Up to be very responsive. In regards to your question about "engage the pin", the 1Up has a very unique system for securing the rack to your receiver. I dragged around a double jet ski trailer for 25 years on a double trailer so I am familiar with the cross pin method of locking in a hitch to a receiver.
The 1Up method is different, make sure you understand how the 1Up differs. I can only tell you that the 1Up system works. I've had a double SuperDuty rack for my 55lb each ebikes on my RV for 5 years. The rack is more stable than my wife with whom I travel with.

I got the single and then ordered a second rack as I mainly only have the one bike. With the single I can fold the rack up and open the rear hatch. It is an investment, but so are the bikes :)
