I have read a few different threads on various forums on this issue, none seem to be what Im looking for. So Im looking for some help if anyone has ideas or has been through this.

Recently purchase SR5 with the factory alarm, its not in valet mode, the battery voltage is good, Im pretty sure I dont have any door latch issues. Pretty sure its not a glass break issue, I can tap on the window and it does go off, I might try this a bit more, but its pretty quiet where its parked.

Alarm likes to go off around 4AM, doesnt matter if I lock with the fob, key in door, or the switch inside.

Last night I disconnected the battery to be sure it didnt go off again, as some nights it likes to go off intermittently.

I quit using the alarm on my '98 long ago because it was way too sensitive. I used to deliver building materials. I would be gone from the Yard for long periods of time. On occasion, when I returned my friends would tell me my alarm was going off for a long time. I guess maybe they stop on their own after a while. Just too annoying.

How did you quit using it? Unplug it? Mine goes off even if I manually lock the doors.

I just manually lock the doors and that works on mine.
My wife has the identical vehicle. Only difference is, hers is white. Both '98 Limiteds. We lock hers manually as well, and no alarm. If that had not worked, then I woulda found the fuse and pulled it.

Yea, manual locking doesnt help. I looked at the fuses and the fuse also powers the clock, stereo, power points etc.

Time to consult the dealer I guess.

Is the "factory" alarm system actually dealer installed? Asian cars are often built with minimal options and options are bolted on when they get here in the states.

I got a Mazda3 with the "factory" alarm but it was really installed at the dealer.

I found the dealer installation instructions online, reversed them and tossed that pile of junk in the trash. It was a module that sat between the ignition and the car's wiring harness. Mostly it was unplug the harness from the module, unplug the module from the ignition, plug the harness to the ignition. The module used its own fobs with an extra alarm button. I just got standard fobs that worked with the PCM.

Dunno if this helps at all but I would think that going back that far, that alarm is going to be a pretty simple deal as car makers were not into integrating it throughout the car like they do nowadays.
